    I'm moving to Syndey, Australia.

What are some of the benefits? I'm a U.S. citizen and not sure how this is going to work. I'm doing one of those spur of the moment things and packing up my shit and moving.

Any advice? I'll have about $10k USD when I get there and finding a place to live is paramount.

I'm looking out my window at the beach and I see NO TITTIES!!

Spreader, are you looking at a permanent move or just a few months? Unfortunately you'll need a lot more than $10k for a permanent move (or a lot less LOL) ... We only let in really rich people with a couple of hundred grand in the bank (business visa) or people who hitch rides on boats - the second option comes with free accommodation in a group sleeping facility.

Melbourne and Sydney are both great cities, but very very different ...

http://www.realestate.com.au will help you search for accomodation

                  LOL

That's why he's looking for places that's 1.5 - 2 hours flight away ... is that the safe distance?!

CTB missed a great sunrise the other morning while he was enjoying his b'day in seattle ...

I was there in Feb, and took this pic at a very cool park. It's a great town, very friendly to even the most casual tourism --

Go to Sydney. I lived in Manly Beach for nearly 4yrs.
Drinking age is 18 so there's lots of beach babes all fucked up and looking for a shag which is an advantage to anyone with an accent.

hey batts care to elaborate on why?

not hating at all, I've just been in Sydney myself for a few months and have loved every minute, however several people have told me Melbourne is more cosmopoliton, better shops and people etc...

I plan on coming back to Australia in a few months for at least a year and am still undecided where i want to actually live....any comments would be appreciated..thanks a lot man

I've knocked about the planet a fair bit, but I love Australia. Sydney and Melbourne *are* very different cities, however. I suppose it depends on what sort of a lifestyle you enjoy. Sydney is metrosexual and snobby, but oh so fuckin' trendy. Melbourne is more arty and free spirited, and they've really cleaned the inner suburbs up. 20 years ago, there were plenty of places in Melbourne you wouldn't go at night, now it's open, relaxed and friendly. I actually live in Perth, complete other side of the country, but if you haven't guessed, I much prefer Melb. Sydney is... too busy, too many people, it annoys the shit out of me.

not hating at all, I've just been in Sydney myself for a few months and have loved every minute, however several people have told me Melbourne is more cosmopoliton, better shops and people etc...

I plan on coming back to Australia in a few months for at least a year and am still undecided where i want to actually live....any comments would be appreciated..thanks a lot man
I have been to Sydney many times, and i just did not like it, i cant put my finger on it, but i just dont like the place.

Melbounre on the other had is fantastic, i would not think of a better place to live. The restruants are the best, the food, the people, there is so many things to do here, the only downfall of melbourne is the weather, it can get very cold here at times.

Melbourne has real culture, the old buildings in the city, the trams.

                                                          Its great.

Batts hit it on the head, Melbourne is a great city but ITS FUCKING COLD!!!
I was born there, but my family brought me to brisbane to thaw out ;-)

I love Sydney to visit, its like a mini try hard new york - it doesn't feel like australia, it feels like all the stuck up people who wish they were european all live there ... Melbourne has great culture, good examples of australian art, wine, nature etc all together. But again ... its cold!!!

If you are coming for a vacation type stay, the Gold Coast is a great option too ... its warm, everyone wears hardly anything, and its only an hour and 10 to fly to sydney.

You could always try the Gold Coast in Queensland. That place is surf and sun for most of the year round. A lot to do and real friendly people.
I still prefered Sydney but to each there own.

Melbourne Imo is a far better choice then Sydney. But it all depends on what you want in a lifestyle, everyone is different.

Melbourne while it does have speratic weather, with most days having 2 or more seasons, it still has rocking summer days, with a layed back atmosphere. You can head down to Lygon St on a summer late evening like 1-2am and the area will still be pumping with people of all ages chilling out, eating/drinking.

It's a multicultural hub. Head down into the CBD (city) and you've got every single culture from around the world living there. From restaurants, cafe's, bars, pubs & clubs. To the nightlife to the waterfront areas to crown casino. Melbs got it all.

Property wise while Melb CBD area is a tad pricey, it's all relevant to your income and cost of living. You can pick up cheaper rental or buy the more you go out of the CBD area.

Sydney property pricing in comparison is way much more, dunno why but it's always been that way. If you take away their bridge and Opera House the've got bugger all else going for em.
