God I hate snakes, especially venomous ones, so I had to take its head off. I guess it's getting to be that time of the year around here
. Oh well, at least I still haven't seen any copperheads or rattlers... yet.
I found a Coral Snake under the deck at my house today...

Damn, that would sure not be a way to start the day. I will say though that coral snakes look really cool. How did you catch him?Comment

Yeah, it definitely startled the hell outta me, I had to do a double take to verify that it really was a coral. I probably would have let it live (maybe) but we have 2 cats (one of which is mainly an indoor cat and curious by nature) that were outside at the time and I didn't want them getting bitten. As far as "how I caught it", the answer would be: with a machette.
edit: my first instinct was to grab one of the 12-gauges, but I figured I might give the neighbors a heart attack.

the snake is beautiful but dangerous.
I wonder where you live. In a village?Comment

About three species of coral snakes are found in the United States. All are small, brightly colored snakes. The venom is neurotoxic and attacks the nervous system. Coral snakes have small grooved fangs which are permanently erect. They usually hang on after biting. Coral snake antivenom is produced for these species in this country.
The Arizona Coral snake (Micruroides) is found only in the Southwestern United States. The venom appears very toxic. The bites are very rare and there is no antivenom for this species.
good thing ya didnt wait to kill itComment

I wouldn't really call it a village; Austin has a population of over 1 million. But, I do live in the hill country out at the lake (Lake Travis) and the prices out here tend to be increased, so there are less people out here which means there is also a lot more wildlife around..

Well, as far as venomous snakes we have Coral snakes, Copperheads, Water Moccasins, and Diamondback Rattlesnakes. We also have scorpions, giant poisonous centipedes, wolves, coyotes, bats, Black Widows, Brown Recluses, Tarantulas, etc. We also have the "cute" stuff like deer, rabbits, foxes, raccons, etc. We got all types of wildlife out here.
