:mad ePassporte Dosent Know the Difference Between Deposit and Debit?!? (Pics) (Drama)

Well, we have all seen alot of incomptence out of this company. But this one really has to take the cake for incomptence. I keep a special savings account at my credit union to use for eMoney services and I dont leave alot of cash in it. If I need more, I move it in.

A few days ago, I confirmed my bank account with ePassporte and then ordered an electron card. There was like $30 left in the acct after that, so I decided to send the money to the bank acct to make sure that aspect was working when I needed it. What a fateful decision that would be.

Here is the money leaving my ePassporte account:

And here is where the money should have come into my savings account at the credit union:

But OH WAIT, its a debit too. So not only did they debit my ePass account, they debited my bank account too. Talk about double dipping! Tell me something, ePassporte. How did you all manage to fuck this up? What the fuck is the matter with you people?

I feel ya..I took my family out to dinner last night. Check out what they debited my account:
08 May 2006 CODYS ORIGINAL ROADHOUSE - $78.58 USD - $94.30

So how the hell does a $78.58 bill, tip paid in cash, mean that $94.30 gets withdrawn from my account?

Doesn't really apply in this situation?

If he was whining about fees, sure, but here they've
a) double billed
and in the second occasion
b) billed $20 more than they should have ?

well lets be realistic , that does occasionally happen with regular visa's . and that does look suspiciously close to an ( automatic 20% tip ) that they would add to your bill, restaurants are notorious for that ( doube charging the tip )

You are EXACTLY correct. I specifically wrote "Cash Tip" on my slip where the tip goes. I'm calling Cody's now..because I specifically put that in there, I never even thought they would do that.

I remember something about this from before - its something to do with the service charge - I dont think they have taken it out they have just authorized it - and it will become available again later.

Of course I could be totally wrong

They automatically hold 120% of the total bill at the restaurant until the restaurant closes the batch.. you'll only get charged the $78.58, but they take out the extra incase you do write in a tip. Clearly stated somewhere on the Epassporte site

"They" being Epassporte, and not the restaurant.

from https://www.epassporte.com/secure/ep...q=faq#extopic4 :
"I paid for a meal at a restaurant with my ePassporte card. The authorization on my account for my meal purchase is different than the amount I spent. Why is this?

When you purchase a meal at a restaurant with your ePassporte Visa Electron card, you transaction is authorized for the amount of the meal plus an extra amount (to allow for a potential gratuity). These authorizations are removed from your account when the merchant settles the actual amount spent at the restaurant, usually in 7 to 10 days."

yup i should have elaborated

Some restaurants have a "minimum tip" thats applied to tables of 4 or more ( so the waitress doesnt get stiffed )

when they auth your credit card they check for available funds of your meal plus the automatic tip. then if you pay cash they will take the tip off the card and charge the amount minus the tip ( but your credit card will still show the full amount for a few days until that actual charge goes thru )

so he might still be ok.. wait for the charge to be fully passed and see

I hate the whole restaurant racket. Just pay a real decent wage, and then if someone WANTS to, they can leave extra cash for the table service, cooks, dishwashers or whoever the hell they want.

Just had to get that off my chest I dont eat out.

Ok, sorry to hijack the thread, lol, but if that's the case, and since I just called Cody's and they confirmed they only charged the $78 + change and invited me to come up and check their records myself if I'd like, why does the $78.58 show in the original currency column, and the $94.30 shows in the "Amount in USD" column. See what I mean-if they automatically overcharged an authorization, like the gas pump does, for example, why does the exact amount of my bill show up in one column and then their figure in another, both of with appear to be a currency conversion thing?

Is the charge pending or cleared in ePass? If its still pending, that means that ePass hasnt posted the batch against thier accounts yet and an overauth would still be there, which, BTW, they seem to also be very slow at doing.

Ok, read the posts posted while I was typing, and I follow ya. I just think that once the batch is sent in, which it has, per my convo with the manager, the additional monies should be returned to available funds. That's the way any other card I've had works. The only time you get fucked is if they place an auth that they don't change to a charge, like when my cell bill was double auth'ed, and only one was withdrawn..I still couldn't access my other cash until the 7-10 days.

yup, I don't understand why you're expected to tip so much in the US. you don't have to in other countries

It is pending, according to the epass site, but, like I said, the batch has already been processed. Which supports your slow statement, lol.

It's just annoying. Not like $17 is going to kill me, but if I had realized it was going to go that way, I would have just kept my cash and let the tip go on the card in the first place, lol.

Add to that the confusion from the column headings appearing to be currency conversion related, and you had one irritated chick. Or "bitch" as some troll idiot called me earlier, lmao!

yup that part sucks , i have hassled with my credit card company over that before , because they like to charge the deposit to your credit card if you rent a car. then when you return the car the charge is withdrawn , but your available funds dont recover for a few days.. pisses me off , especially when they dont need to do it like that ( but it gives visa lots of money to sit on )

When the merchant closes the batch, Visanet the requisite information to the card issuing bank to be applied against customer accounts within 24 hours when both days are business days. Some banks (Citibank) apply them throughout the day, others run them once a day (my CUs all run them at starting at about 5:30 PM EST) and then there are places like ePassporte that just seem to run them whenever.

I have always been of the opinion that they should be required to run batches once or twice daily (but not constantly throughout the day) starting at the same time each day and they should be required to tell thier customers when they run or lose thier ability to process. Furthermore, the TTL for auths should be shortened to 7 calander days like Discover and Amex instead of the current 30 business days that Visa and MC use.

I am not sure why ePassporte and some others like to play this game so much, but it really ought to be made illegal. Of course, if one were to update the spec to Visanet, the whole principle of an "auth" could be eliminated entirely. Of course, that will never happen as it means every card terminal on the planet would have to be updated.

On the phone (hold, of course) with ePassporte customer dis-service now... already had to explain it three times... he finally understood that the $35.00 fee for the Electron card wasnt what I was calling about... gawd.

This might take all night.

Yes, its the same account.

You really work with some nice people. Dont they teach manners over there where your call centers are?

Your last rep first tried to tell me that his supervisor said he had to let me go as there were other calls coming in. I told him I didnt care about the other calls, I was first and they could wait thier turn, so he finally clicked me over to his supervisor who said "Sir, I am looking at it right here. Its a deposit, not a debit." as if to call me a liar. Now she wants me to call in with the bank on the phone to verify it in the morning, which is fine, I'll do it. She told me I could do that "after I called my bank so they could explain to me that they didnt debit my account". When I asked how long it would take to fix it after I called on the conf with the bank, she said "Well, we havent even determined if anything is needing fixed yet."

you will get the money back.... it's just like with gas. if you use your card at a gas station they automatically hold $50 no matter how much gas you buy.
