Because if you could eat just one, it would take forever for you to go though a bag, and the sunflower growers would never be able to sell enough bags to sustain a decent living. It is all economics.

my college roommate is quitting right now and eating sunflower seeds like crazy! they're his replacement tool. i would be the same way with gum - i'd go through packs of it if i kept it around.
