Nothing special, just a .22 Beretta target pistol and a Benelli semi-automatic shotgun. they're in another country though, 'cos its impossible to get that shit in the UK legally.

Gemini 05-15-2002 11:39 PM

I had to pour 4 ozs of whiskey down the old mans throat to get him to quit laffing about wandering alien visitors buying machine guns. Especially when most so called machine guns are actually SUBmachine guns. :winkwink:

That question should be the poser... who knows the difference?!?

But yes I guess you could buy one oit of some ones car trunk... now sneaking it back in to another country could be a little tough... Legally?! Not a freaking chance .

In shann's defense....There was no mention of the friend being from another country. We know it is B.S. anyway but the friend could be a US citizen as well as a liar.

Gemini 05-15-2002 11:51 PM

Aaron... I was just sort of hoping a US citizen wouldn't be spouting such drivel. :1orglaugh Alas, I know many do but can't fault a girl for hoping! :winkwink:

Sad thing is, pre 1994 I might have halfway believed that statement. This old man has brought all sorts of knowledge to me as well as some of those nasty things that go burp and shake alot until you learn how to hold on to them. :winkwink:

LiveDose 05-15-2002 11:52 PM

Ok Aaron... I know exactly what kind of person you are talking about. If there was another way to diffuse the situation I would. If I had been alone I probably would have handled it differently. If I am taking care of someone then I won't take chances.

I've used a firearm in self defense twice up in NYC when I was involved in high risk business(legal) and I wasn't shooting into the air.

This is the first time I've pulled it out in 5 years and if that knife had come at me or one of the dudes had grabbed it I had every intent of using the gun. Pulling the piece out was a reaction and I would never hesitate to use it, with just cause. One of the guys with her was a cocky fuckin' cop and he was the one instigating at first. They were all drunk and I was drinking cokes all night because I was sick. My judgement was very clear.

I know what you're saying and I agree with your point that guns should be taken seriously. I also believe that a gun can be used as a deterent when you are dealing with a situation that could get out of control. I never start shit it's always the other way around in public but I will always keep the upper hand when trouble shows it's face.....

Peace.

vidsweb 05-15-2002 11:54 PM

I have a badass Super Soaker, and if anyone tries to mess with me I just shoot them in the crotch, then everyone will think they pissed their pants and they'll be really embarassed....and that would be the end of that little confrontation!

No shit! The only difference is "potential predators" buy them on the street illegally.

Hmmmm do you have to fill out a form that asks your intentions with the gun?

You have no concept of the shit you have to go thru to get a pistol legally in the US. (depending on the state) In mass you are treated like a registered sex offender, if i decide to move out of town i have to notify 3 law enforcement agency's. A registered sex offender only has to notify the town he moves into.

Please choose what you will use your fire arm for:
A. Defending myself
B. Car jacking and other fun stuff

My licence says "all lawful purposes" which means what the fuck ever I decide I want to use it for. But to simplify this for you. Group A buys them legally and goes thru all the retarded laws.
Group B buy them stolen or smuggled into the country on the street.

Doesnt' the fact that you can access guns so easily to defend yourselves, make you wonder where all the bad guys get the guns that you need to defend yourself FROM?!

Ya, smuggled in/stolen.

Last I heard, your gun control laws are whacked and vary from state to state.

uh huh, and a 50% income tax is whacked too. point?

My friend just bought a machine gun in Nevada, no cooling off period, no back ground check, they didn't even ask for ID and this was at a GUN SHOW.

Ok, grab a shovel and put on some waders, the bullshit's flying here. On another note, i called mistress cleo, she told me alyssa milano's going to walk thru my door naked and fuck me in 2 hours, i cant wait.

I have nothing against it, shit i went to the shootin
g range twice in Vegas, took pictures and everything! Walked in, signed a waiver, bought my rounds, went back to the range with a machine gun and after a 90 second intro you too can be the happy shooter of a machine gun!

Club licence. Try to walk away with the gun, see what happens next.

I had a good time, was a bit freaked by the dad with his 2 kids under 10 shooting in there as well.

ya, thats fucked up, kids should think that guns are exaxtly what they show in the cartoons, ya shoot the talking duck, he gets up missing feathers and says something witty. I have every intention of taking my kids out in the woods and showing them exactly what guns do, why they're not fucking toys, and the fucking duck does NOT get up after being shot.

I'm VERY happy visiting the US, and I'm VERY happy living in Canada. All you Canada bashers can just go fuck yourselves! HAHAHA

Ya, I'd love to be up there, 50% income tax, 10$ for a pack of cigs, armed with a can of oven cleaner for the guy thats breaking into my house for crack money, oh ya, and french everywhere. But, i can only dream.

Just a thought, but WHY are all of you being attacked all the damn time! Where the hell are you hanging out?! WHY does everyone need to defend themselves?!

The world is a violent place, welcome to reality, enjoy your stay.

Ya, why defend yourself, just bend over and take it like a bitch.

GTS Mark 05-16-2002 12:41 AM

Man reading this topic with so many different points of view is just amazing. I am just shaking my head at so many of the responses to why it is appropriate or non appropriate to pull a weapon in "self defense".

I can't honestly ever remember one of my friends ever having a situation where one of them has had a gun pulled on them or has even seen a gun in public (other than in an officer's holster).

I also wonder what you guys that have had gun incidents have done to warrant these attacks by other people. I am not pointing fingers here guys but common if someone is blocking in your car and waiving bats at you they can't be doing this out of pure spontanaety. You must have done something to prevoke this? I am not calling you out and asking you to tell us all about your dirty laundry but you are the ones who posted this info in the 1st place.

You guys that have pulled guns talk about it so seriously and then you brag and joke about the size of these monster weapons? You talk about how you would never want to shoot someone but yet you brag about the size of the caliber of the weapon and how big of a hole you can put in someone with it. It is really quite crazy!

Anyways I think we all need to understand is that even though we are neighbours (Canada and US) our cultures and beliefs are still very different. I have been raised in a society where guns are not available and certainly not the norm. As where an US guy has been brought up seeing weapons all his/her life and is quite used to carrying/using weapons.

Very interesting topic this one.

You have valid points and good questions here. Personally, I am not about to mention the specifics of my situations but let me just say that I was not picking fights with people at random. You have been around here long enough to have read a few similar threads that I have participated in and anybody who has read them all should be able to piece it all together.

Peace

Guns are everywhere in the US, it all boils down to population, you pack alot of people into small area's you get crime, you have crime, then u have people who want to defend themselves, thats where guns come in. Canada doesnt have these problems, hell, the entire country is smaller then NYC and LA combined. And the inner city problems migrate all over the fucking place, I live 2 hours from NYC and theres gangs out of NYC up here in mass. Add the gangs out of Boston/Hartford and Local gang's, theres not too many places you really want to be.

But I'd rather carry a pistol around and never use it, then need a gun and not have one.

Well said. And with that I am outta here. I have to be at the airport in 4 hours and I have not even started to pack.

vidsweb 05-16-2002 01:18 AM

I don't think the high crime rates in the US have much to do with having a big population. Because if that were true, then people in Japan would be getting shot all the time, but they aren't, and Japan has over 125 Million people squashed into a really small country.

The U.S. rate for gun deaths in 1994 was 14.24 per 100,000 people.

Japan had a rate of .05 per 100,000.

vidsweb 05-16-2002 01:27 AM

The CDC would not speculate why the death rates varied, but other researchers said easy access to guns and society's acceptance of violence are part of the problem in the United States.

"If you have a country saturated with guns -- available to people when they are intoxicated, angry or depressed -- it's not unusual guns will be used more often,'' said Rebecca Peters, a Johns Hopkins University fellow specializing in gun violence.

That makes sense to me.

In my case, I was driving down the road with my dog in the passenger seat. We were on the way out to the lake. There were 2 guys in a car that were driving WAY too fast. It was a 45 MPH zone and they were doing at least 60. I watched them almost rear end a car behind me. We unfortunately ended up at a stop light next to each other and they tried to get me to race (I had a Z-28 at the time). Not wanting to risk a ticket, I simply shook my head and rolled up the window. They took that to mean I was being a prick and deserved an ass kicking. They motioned for me to roll down my window and when I did, the passenger asked me "what's your problem, faggot". My only reply was "fuck you" and I rolled my window back up. They moved on ahead of me. I figured that was the end of it. No big deal. It's a college town. Some of those 19 year old kids act like that.

I made a right into a gas station for my daily Dr. Pepper fix and to grab the dog and I some beef jerky to split. When I pulled in, I sat in the car for about a minute getting my money straightened out. I have a nasty habit of wadding it up in my pocket. Anyway, the assholes pulled in the drive just as I was getting out and stopped their car directly behind mine. There was no exchange of words except for one of them saying "we got you bitch". I saw a bat and a tire iron and got my gun out of the center console. I stepped out, and ordered them to drop their toys and lie down. They said they just wanted to talk. Once the police got there, the guys were arrested for DUI, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. One of the guys had been arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer in the past. I am convinced having a gun saved my life or at least kept my head in a nice, regular shape.

I did not provoke the incident in any way.

yar this is a bit ridiculous.. japan is an incredibly civilised society.. very safe..

"relatively few young criminals in Japan are detained, and they are usually kept not in prisons but in Juvenile Training Schools. I was taken to see the oldest of them, the Tama Juvenile Training School at Hachioji in the suburbs of Tokyo.

Lawyer Kenji Ikegami says punishment can be necessary

There are 200 boys here, who live highly regimented lives, with a busy schedule of classes, exercise, assemblies and group discussions.

Vocational training is also strong, with classes in metalwork, computer skills, construction techniques and - bizarrely - handling of dangerous substances. I was impressed to hear that the training is evidently effective, as 40% of the boys find jobs before they leave. "

just don't fuck with the yakuza :)

Any gun is an inanimate object. The thing that makes it a deadly weapon is the training, maturity, and sanity of the person holding it.

I learned long ago not to get involved in this type of discussion... most of it has been quite interesting though. For some reason I keep thinking of a video clip I saw at www.heavy.com in the 'this is america' section about a blind man with a gun collection...

Hmmm, let me clear something for you.....the friend Shan was referring to IS a U.S. citizen and further more she is not making that shit up. Perhaps if you turned a TV on once and while watched a bit of news you would see that they sell shit like that at gun shows ALL the time, where do you think half of these gun wielding punks get their guns from.

Perhaps if you weren't so cocky you would not have to defend yourselves! And you people know who you are.....

Or perhaps if you didn't have such small dicks you wouldn't have to over-compensate with a gun! LOL

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy going to the US and sure you have the right to bare arms but come on.....

Let me start off by saying good fucking morning! I just woke up <yawn>

Ok, gun jargon I know nothing of, sub machine gun or machine gun WHATever. Thanks for jumping on me for that smarty pants Gemini! And yes thank you AronM, I never said my friend was not a US citizen, he lives in Las Vegas. He bought it at the gun show last weekened, the machine gun or sub machine gun and he couldn't believe how easy it was for him to buy it. It is used, I'm unsure if that makes a difference, oh and to top it all off, it has a bayonet on the end of it! NICE! LOL

Evil1, how can a someone selling a gun, tell the difference between a good guy and a bad guy? Bad guys only buy their guns illegally? Wow, that's fucking blind faith isn't it!
And OMG like i would bullshit about this, good gawd! LOL I have better things to do then talk shit on a board, LMFAO
And last time I checked, smokes were just under $5 CAD, which is like $3 USD a far cry from $10. And no one speaks french here in Toronto, and WTF will a can of oven cleaner do?! LOL B and E's from crack heads?! What the hell have you been watching! LMFAO

Oh and i never said bend over and take it, I question WTF you are doing to be in a position to NEED to defend yourself all the time. Sure defend yourself, and thank you for welcoming me to reality! See Alyssa Milano yet tough guy?

And i am so NOT a tree hugging pacifist! Of all the things I've been called that is a FIRST!

personally I can see a reason for hunting rifles and shotguns. They are LARGE, clumsy and require some skill to use. Skill requires you to think a bit, and if you're thinking then maybe you won't kill someone without a second thought. They also have a legitimate sporting purpose.
The constitution of the USA allowed people the right to bear arms to be able to resist foreign powers from controlling you. It was not a right given to protect yourself - it was there for political self determination. Rifles and shotguns more than fullfil this purpose.

Handguns on the other hand, belong ONLY in the hands of the police. There is NO legitimate reason for ANY private citizen to own a handgun. NONE - ZERO - ZILCH.

Even medical doctors are calling handguns a helath risk. People who own handguns are 4X as likly to commit suicide and 2X as likey to commit murder (not self defense, and that's LEGAL gun owners)

what are you, a fucking idiot?

Medical doctors are the ones who the gunshot victoms goto to after you pull the trigger. They have an idea of when something is casuing a health concern cause they find they are partching up and/or sending to the morgue FAR too many people due to handgun 'incidents'

this is prime example of a TYPICAL handgun loving DUMBASS.
