I have this tool that I use to pull them up. I'll try to find a link of it in a bit. But you step on it, and these steel things go down and then you pull it up. Next you push this rod down, and the root mass pops off the steel thingy.

Just get that spray poison that you hook to the hose. Takes ten minutes to do the average yard and works great.
