It is illegal to purchase from government regulated stores called "Cannibus Club" if and only if you have a doctors perscription.
As for growing it, i dont think you can grow for personal use, perscription or not.

2. A prescription lasts for as long as the doctor rights it for. A good doctor will set you up for at least 4 years. According to the laws a prescription can be written and or verbal. Federally though a doctor can have his or her license yanked for writting them.
3. None of the cannibus clubs are Government regulated. The state was supposed to get into this and provide some regulation, distribution, and so forth but this has never came to pass.
4. You will not find a real limit on how much you can buy or grow, it is still all a very grey area. Oakland though seems to have the greatest handle on it as far as local laws regarding amounts go.Comment

It was gonna be decriminalized in Canada under the Liberals, but now that Harper and his conservitive bunch have got in power, Harper say they will not be going ahead with the decriminalized of weed
they even said that people that were exempt would be arrested. Heard it on the news a couple weeks back
I do hope that the Harper crew won't do that.
