Roger....wow...

You are in such a great place to be a leader in this one, you have been around for such a long time, know everyone, and can with a single email get your pals to jump on board, most are big players in this biz.

Maybe even some of the other program owners will come out and do something ANYTHING but talk talk talk ...action boys, do it.

We complain about "politics" now you get to real feel for what is all about, the deals that are made in the back rooms among our politicians, the same shit has happened here ladies and gents with .XXX .....amazing.

Consider sending email to ICANN similar to "voteing" ..you have a voice in this matter, no vote no voice.

Sell me and everyone out over some dollars......and i am sure it wont be that much or be that worth it in the end for you.... think about it.

Oh an Alien ...you are right on the money!

Have you been smokeing crack nobody has reserves on anything please dont try to confuse people on this subject. This is a legit deal and legit business practices. But for the industry leaders that think they are getting their domains in .xxx they need to keep a close on eye on the updates of .xxx or they will luck out and thats part of the internet you cant exspect just because you have sex.com you sould also have sex.xxx and .net .org .info .sex if they ever put it out. Thats just not possible.

And oh yeah....dont counting your money before its there also.....

Oh to those who dont read, do you know what these .XXX domains are going to cost?

Well what ever they want first, but the price is around 75 bucks, so do the math, if you have to have multiple domains, $$$

Bend over and be ready for .XXX

The assumation that "Big Players" are on board .XXX is silly and very illogical.

There are no big players on board, the big players do not give a shit, cuz either way thier business will continue. .XXX is funded by some English dude with no ties to the adult industry. Maybe focus on that.

Instigating Paranoia on to larger firms and companies is nothing more than a tactic in creating distrust of the many successful people that have paid webmasters time and time again for years on a regular uninterrupted.

Nothing like a little self promotion and glorification to throw into the bon fire ehh?

Sad.

i guess that would depend on what you've heard.

Some things that i have heard (these can be urban legends when .XXX gets rejected, or validation when it does get approve):

-an "industry leader" would get paid $50K/month for the 3 months for consulting work to determine who is industry or not, since .XXX domains would first be acquired by those already in the biz.

-other "industry leaders" and organizations would be put in similar positions of being able to determine who could get a .XXX... almost like the .XXX Santa Claus. which surely opens up to some favoritism and first picks.. gee, that's why people wanted to get on the good side of .XXX... hedging their bet with silence that if it does go through, they get preferential treatment

-a "free speech" organization (no longer active) would get some .XXX money, but instead the founder is on retainer with ICM.

but again, i understand the strategic reasons and the financials gains to be had by .XXX supporters. It's the failure of webmasters who have more to lose in having .XXX approved that stand on the sidelines and do nothing, is the shameful part.

Winston Churchill said, "all that is needed for evil to persist is for good men to do nothing."

Another phrase comes to mind:
Cum tacent, clamant - When they remain silent, they cry out. (Their silence speaks louder than words) (Cicero)

I know several good people who are allowing evil to succeed.

FTP - Thats why this shot is right down the middle, which is also why I have felt support for .XXX in the past.

I been around long enough to know our own industry needs protection from scum bags dropping in and cashing out at our expense.

Most honest companies and legit business owners need protection from outsiders that come in and do nothing but exploit us.

Examples of exploitation comes to mind with abusive billing practices, spam, Spyware, traffic jacking, fake hits, fake stats so on and so forth...

You have been exploited, I have been exploited and many many others have been exploited in this biz. A call to regulation is needed. TO a degree .XXX fits the bill before it all gets worse. A good number of my "Contacts" and "Business Associates" that run legit business and honestly go day to day running a respectable business are constantly battling others in fraud and veritable scams played world wide.

We have discussed this before.
Regarding .XXX for a YES or NO it requires an honest and intelligent choice and not a topic un-educated for band wagon followers.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 05-06-2006 06:16 PM

The dumb follow easily and the genuine and intelligent folks evaluate and come to a conclusion, and in my 12 years here this is one of those moments where I am against the issue but very very very lightly so.

Honestly I need more assurances that it would be smooth to make a 100% approval of .XXX. For now .XXX more clarifications are indeed needed by intelligent industry folks. Not morons.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 05-06-2006 07:01 PM

If you are opposed to this and look at the angles...

Definatly say so guys and girls.
Get a letter out.
Opposition to this situation in the industry oughtah be felt.

Just read up on the matter a little and get yer words in. There is time and it is not to late. My thinking is not always nuts on and infact often off, way off.

Just make sure ya put in your concerns regarding the matter.
Every letter counts and not a click drag to trash bin. Everyones thoughts do matter.

I have spent years managing corporate IT departments spending 10's of

step towards controlling how pervasive porn can be.

On another note, It sure seems interesting that most of the dissenting
opinions are coming from pornographers themselves. What are you really
afraid of, maybe someone will hold you accountable.

it really is amazing sometimes how technically qualified people can be so ignorant.

1) I get more non-porn spam these days in my inbox

2) how does having .XXX control porn? The whole point of .XXX was not to control porn, but yet, people want it to be used that way?!?!?!? That alone should be clear grounds for ICANN to not approve.

95% of the spam I get is non porn related. So like you, I get more non porn spam than anything else. When it is porn related spam it's some fucking CP shit which I report.

What the fuck's with people that think .XX will help stop anything? Do they realize that this.XXX shit is all about bringing us down and not protecting the children? Christ, why can't people see behind the bullshit they feed us. No wonder this world is so fucking weak.

Like you said "fight the .stupid"

Yngwie 05-07-2006 04:53 AM

also, how the fuck will .xxx stop porn spam? The spammers email the shit to people so it will not stop anything porn related. Only difference is that the links to porn sites in the spam will be www.whatever.xxx. I guess because they made drugs like weed, cocaine, heroin etc.. illegal it stopped people from getting it? lol

FightThisPatent 05-07-2006 04:56 AM

Any paysites or webmaster resource boards interested in mailing out to their affiliates/members about posting up to ICANN???

please do it now to atleast give your affiliates/members the chance to weigh in. Not everyone reads the boards, or are aware of this issue (there are still people to this day who don't have any clue about what Acacia is about).

Fight the inquiry!

Yngwie 05-07-2006 05:00 AM

and to be perfectly honest. If it was specifically for protecting children the first place they should look is in the home. The parents bought their children a computer knowing full well that the internet was flooded with porn that their children may see. Yet, they don't get any filtering software and allow their kids to use the computer unsupervised.. Oh, but that's our fault, right? Sure, .xxx will protect the innocent children from seeing porn.. Riiiiiiiight! It's all about controlling us, ruining us.. Sex is bad, but murder, violence on tv, swearing is all fine thoough.. What a fucking world. When can I get myself a spaceship and leave this shit hole?

while this is a very good idea ( althoguh a little late maybe ), couldn't talking to ICANN directly or sending them formal letters be better?

do they really care if there are 200 emails or 400 emails from adult webmasters? they are not going to read them all anyway, so unless they are following them daily, then - f.e your emails sent 2 days ago to them probably won't be read anymore, because they will be already hidden on 2nd page

http://www.icann.org/general/board.html

here's the ICANN board of directors - maybe emailing each of them as individually as possible, could help a little too? ( this is my proposal to you and not everyone who will just write with broken english "xxx is stupid, ok? i dont want it" )

all ( or some ) of these ICANN board directors are going to debate .xxx and then probably vote on .xxx and I doubt all of them will read carefully the public comments page - while all of them must read their own emails ( at least I hope so )

milambur 05-07-2006 05:32 AM

If you haven't already sent in a comment, do it now before it is too late.

FightThisPatent 05-07-2006 06:05 AM

great post by Andrew Gage of barebackjack.com
http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-tld.../msg00143.html

"Eight years ago, I championed the idea of .xxx as a viable means of parental
filtering of adult-content websites, however in the course of these 8 years the technology of the internet and political focus have changed making .xxx more of a danger to the adult entertainment business than a help to families. "

There were many ppl 6-8 years ago that also thought .XXX might be a good idea, and might be a way to help protect children as well as to offer a red light district section of the internet that might keep government action away.

Like Andrew wrote about, alot has changed in the last few years, in particular 2257.

Those that thought .XXX was a good idea and supported it back then, who now, have a much different opinion should write to ICANN directly, especially if you gave an endorsement.

Whatever letter you provided to ICM back then was shown to ICANN as "proof" that the adult industry wants .XXX

It is that "proof" they showed back years ago that has allowed .XXX proposal to continue.

You can take back your vote of support by contacting ICANN to retract it. Contact me and i can forward you the email address to use. I will, as i have always done with the acacia issue, keep all correspondances private.

i have no interest in "outing" individuals and companies that support .XXX in the past, and now wish to retract. I understand the reasons why you may have done so in the past, and will respect your privacy by keeping your retraction interests confidential.

The good intent in the past has created the problem we face today. If you want to help correct this for your own conscious and maybe for some chance that you can undo what has been done, feel free to contact me.

Fight the second thoughts!

while quantity is certainly needed.. some level of quality as well.

please only send one email expressing your concerns (not from each domain you have)... we're not looking to spam the list.. that will only serve to prove to those about the "bad marketing practices" that has been tagged to the adult industry.
