Are WE About to be Killed?

IMHO, could the ICM Registry folks, and others, be killing us off by their pushing for approval of .xxx this coming Wednesday at the ICANN meeting? Could we be killing ourselves off by not fighting .xxx????

Why don't we ALL send a "Do NOT approve the .xxx tdl" (or words/variations of that short and easily sent email) to the ICANN Forum seeking comments prior to their May 10 meeting to consider the .xxx application which might possibly kill us? Thus far, less than 100 comments have been sent to ICANN's Forum at [email protected] . Yikes!!

Present comments are viewable at http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-tld-agreement/

Please send an email NOW, lest the ICANN Forum close (possibly BEFORE the May 10th ICANN meeting?) in order to have time for their staff to process/tally/summarize all the input.

I'm an old fogey who just can't understand why we're letting this happen, and why so many of us are standing by and letting the possible beheadings gear up!!

If we don't muster GFYers big-time NOW, regretably the next sound out of this might be ICM's "Cha-Ching", and our ""swooshing" while we are being shoved down the garbage disposal as we are being put out of business????

Please email ICANN immediately, AND motivate your associates/affiliates/members/relatives/friends/neighbors/etc to do likewise!

I still don't quite understand who would be effected by the .XXX move. Would ICANN limit adult websites to .XXX internationally, or would it just apply to American-based websites?

IMO, .xxx gives kids an easier chance to find an adult site... i mean all they have to do is type... www."something".xxx and they are bound to get an adult site. So how does this help? Except for the government to keep a group listing of ALL adult sites. and that would NOT be good. I mean with all the filtering that ISP's do these days... it will be too easy for an ISP to ban all .xxx sites. IT's NOT A GOOD THING!!!!!!

Dave, you've been doing a great job trying to bring this issue to everybody's attention.

It's amazing to me that a board of GFY's size, with so many members who post thousands of ridiculous messages each year, only has a handful of participants who will take two minutes of their precious board whoring time to write something that will help keep their businesses intact.

If each of Juicy's nicks wrote a letter to icann, it would double the response so far.

I spent a couple of hours of my post because I think that ICANN will read it. We all know this has nothing to do with protecting children and is only about creating a new porn empire so we should all make our comments.

In a professional manner of course

The best thing would be to play this up to the church groups.. Go to some of the bigger "religious" forums and tell them .XXX will make a red light district online.

Get them pissed off about it, and lead them down the same path we want just for a different reason. They know how to mass around something and most of the religious nuts would get hard ons for a anti-porn crusade.

They are easy sheep to lead, so why not make use of them?

I have sent off my email, laying out my opinion and opposition to a .xxx tld. Also my reasoning why .kids would be a clearly obvious choice if the true intention is to protect children.

In short, .xxx will be about punishing adults, and .kids would be about protecting children.

I wonder how many guys are on the edge of their chairs just waiting to jump at all the hot keywords for .xxx domains when/if its passed. I assume that a lot of webmasters see it as new marketing potential rather than a problem.

I bet they fall off those chair edges when they find out those hot keywords were never available "publicly"

send 20 fictional concerned parent emails from 20 different (real) email addresses with the following angle:
"My name is Linda(random female name of course) I am a worried parent of 2 girls and a lovely son, and I believe that this will legitimize porn and/or make kids more keen to find porn bla bla bla...."

not to argue or anything, im completely against .xxx domain names but your point raises a flaw... It would be extremely easy for parents to block their chlildren from reaching porn sites by just blocking the entire porn tld rather than individual sites or relying on content ratings.

At any rate, ICANN you suck, and you're infringing upon our rights... The real purpose to your strive to move all porn to .xxx domain names is clear, take the largest industry on the internet, and make it illegal to not purchase your product. Just like the web is like the wild west, you bastards are the train robbers.. OOOOOK

that's only true if EVERY adult website in the world was in .XXX

With U.S. laws being proposed to make mandatory .XXX would mean websites could just go offshore, or those outside of the US ignore the US chatter.. and kids still could have easy access to porn.

that's why .KIDS TLD is the best answer.

everything you wanted to learn about why .XXX is bad and why .KIDS is good:
