dial 05-04-2006 04:13 PM

if you enjoy building your own computer and modding the FUCK out of it, then get a PC...if you want the standard out of the box computer that you can't have any fun with, then a mac

Fun? I guess it all depends if you like to tinker with hardware that might not match with each other or just pull the beast of of the box and run without issues.

Only buy mac if you're a designer/journalist. They're good for that. Don't buy their laptops though, go for the G5s. Macs aren't really good with gaming though, so if gaming is what you plan to do with your computer, get a PC. Actually build a PC, it's much cheaper :p newegg.com for the win.

I dont think those old rules of "mac's are only for the arty ppl" works anymore, mac's are for anyone. and specially those who got fed up with all this windows bullshit.

even if you are into gaming, you can do that to. in a stylish way running windows straight from your brand new Mac Book Pro.

I have a G5 back home, and I cant wait to get back to my baby!

Just_Dave 05-04-2006 05:25 PM

i am going to go to the apple store tomorrow to check it out in person

CyberHustler 05-04-2006 05:27 PM

i might switch to mac since they gettin windows xp

'So Fucking Money 05-04-2006 05:28 PM

Even if you're a designer you can do just as much with a PC. I used to have both at my old job and the mac barely got used. I used it for a boombox & safari to check browser compatibility

woj 05-04-2006 05:28 PM

50....,.....

Thead 05-04-2006 05:57 PM

Get a Mac. No more problems!

Tuga 05-04-2006 06:21 PM

Buy a Mac and dont look back.

I dont feel like talking too much about it, all I can say is I have 2 PCs and since I got my Powermac, my main PC is only used to play mp3 and movies.

CaptainHook 05-04-2006 06:24 PM

We have multiple macs in here (mini, few ibooks and a powerbook g4), and when they work, they work great. However I had an issue with the powerbook the other day when the airport card had an issue, causing kernel panics whenever you tried to boot. After several hours of trying to diagnose the issue, I found a way to disable the drivers for the airport, which made the Mac boot fine, but no wireless :(

Getting the wireless card out is a big issue, and probably will require taking it to a mac store. Their prices are quite steep for simple maintenence so if something happens to your Mac, be prepared to spend some $ getting it fixed.

With a PC, there's usually at least one nerd in the office who can fix it.

abyss_al 05-04-2006 07:25 PM

mac = junk

:2 cents:

I like to build my beasts from the ground up, and what parts mis-matching are you talking about? you are aware of how a computer is built right? it won't run if the parts don't match up...LOL

right now I have a dual xeon water cooled system that lights up my room in an excellent ambient way

BoyAlley 05-04-2006 07:43 PM

DEFINATELY buy a peesee!

Pornwolf 05-04-2006 07:53 PM

Which operating system do you know how to operate best? That's the only question that matters because they are now the same performance wise. Whatever you know best then buy.

TheMaster 05-04-2006 07:58 PM

PC !!!

mac has one way of doing something and one way only, their OS is for kids, awful to work with, if you have any experience with computers

E$_manager 05-04-2006 08:10 PM

i thought that Macs are better for graphics - not sure if that is right.
I use PC - don't know if Mac is better.
We had designers in our newspaper, they worked on Macs. I liked the way the mashenes looked like. That is it.

xclusive 05-04-2006 08:21 PM

pc all the way

Vitasoy 05-05-2006 01:27 AM

Tried mac, never got used to it. PC all the way

gecko 05-05-2006 02:02 AM

PC no doubt about it

bdld 05-05-2006 02:04 AM

a PC, cant get crap to be compatible with macs.

aico 05-05-2006 02:43 AM

PC's are junk, that is why they are so fucking cheap. I have had a MAC Quadra 840 AV, a Mac G3, A Mac G4, A Mac G5, and a Mac Powerbook. None of them EVER had to be taken in to get fixed, not once. The only time they ever crashed was when System 9 was on it, that shit was crap.

I have also had computers ALL my life, my first computer was a HeathKit that my father and I built he was/is a computer engineer, and we have also had a PC since they came out (whatever was before the 286 A-something I forget, 286, 386, 486, Pentiums). Also had a commodore 64 and 128.

I have used Corel Draw 1 thru 8, Illustrator 4 - 10, Photoshop 2 thru CS2, Every Version of Flash, Director 6, 7, 8, MX. Premeire 4 - 6, After Affects 4, 5, 6, Final Cut Pro, Dreamweaver 4 - MX, BBedit, Quicken, Quickbooks, Mircrosoft Office... blah blah blah I have been doing this a long time.

Out of ALL of my computers, Mac has been the best I have worked with, hands down. The only computer that I have ever come across that even compared to a Mac and was actually better at the time, was a Silicone Graphics.

The saying "Macs are for designers" is so fucking stupid. That is soooo old, the reason they WERE for designers is because Macs had a larger and more accurate system color palette than PC's had. So printing was more accurate to what you saw on your monitors.

Also the "Nothing is compatible with Mac" is pure 100% crap, or the old "can't open Mac files"... well if you were too stupid to type the file extension so you could open it on a PC, that's was your problem.

You get a better built, a more stable, and better looking computer when you buy a Mac. Now with the Mac Book Pro and it's ability to BOOT UP in Windows XP or OS X, I can not think of any reason why anyone would buy a PC other than they can't afford a Mac, and that's a pretty good reason, not everyone can afford the best.

Take it from me, a person who has actually probably used every fucking type of computer there is, do yourself a favor and buy a Mac, it will be the best decision you made. I can't think of one reason to buy a PC other than they're cheap.

Cyndalie 05-05-2006 09:02 AM

Call me bi...But I use both PC and Mac's daily. PC is mainly work, Mac is more for personal use, but I prefer working on the Mac whenever I have the option. It's like driving a mercedes versus a ford focus...Macs rule. I just got the last edition iBook that is fast as hell, but if you have the funds go mac book pro with the dual boot so you can run both OS's until you are comfortable using OSX. Get one, it will put the motivation back in your step and inspire you all over again to get excited about computers and work.

Cyndalie 05-05-2006 09:12 AM

Also the mac OS is so userfriendly you have to be a retard to not be able to figure it out when learning. Control = Apple key. The rest is common sense.

Unless you need some specialy software, the mac is really the way to go. I use both a Mac and a PC and the Mac OS is faster and much more stable with no viruses and an easier to use interface that is extremely intuitive.

see that's just the problem, it's so userfriendly that it keeps you at the retard level, if I have to drag to the bin just to delete something once more in my life, I'll go on a killing spree.

MAC really is a single task computer, if you're like me and you're doing 15 things at the same time with 10 programs open, then pc is faster, because the control of the OS is much more open

+ when mac crashes, it realy crashes, last time I had to pull the plug on an $200.000 editing station, because the reset button didn't cut power to the MAC.

I love messing around with my OS and customizing everything, so Mac OS really isn't anything for me

HA HA HA Single task my ass, you don't even know how to use the trash, I seriously doubt you can run 10 programs at once. Right now I am compressing video in Cleaner 6.5, retouching photos in Photoshop, Building galleries in Sitedepth, Listening to iTunes, and typing on here.

And what OS are you using 8.6??? My Mac hasn't hard crashed in over 2 years. Again, learn how to use it... you have to HOLD the button in for a few seconds.

LOL, you are the poster child for not know anything about Macs... I seriously recommend you never buy one, and if you already have, I recommend you put it back in the box, take it to the Apple Store, ask for your money back, and tell them you are too stupid to use it. Just show them how you use the trash and they'll completely understand.

I recommend that you go to the Apple Store if there is one near you. Not only will you have tons of fun playing with all the cool toys, they can help you find the computer you need. Be sure to go upstairs and see if there are any free classes going on, and you will see how fucking cool the programs really are.

Benjamin 05-05-2006 03:00 PM

I switched from linux/windows to mac few month ago. Mac os X is a friendly unix system, but it's a true unix system, and... it's so good :)

Cyndalie 05-05-2006 04:12 PM

Drag something to bin? try AppleKey + Delete
Learn the os. then talk.
Single task? What year are you in? 1985?
Do you even know it's on a Unix shell?
As for crashing I've been running my machine HARD 24/7 for years and since OSX i haven't had to force quit or have crashed yet.
wake up and realize the dream :) Mac's rule!

Fresh 05-05-2006 04:28 PM

just keep in mind Dave, a Mac, intel based or not, can NOT play DRM'd files :2 cents:

Cyndalie 05-05-2006 04:34 PM

Flip4mac has come a long way with playing WMV in Quicktime, but I must concur, I've had to cancel memeberships because of that fact Dave Guru :( I wanted to watch that porno dammit! But I blame DRM not Apple.

And guys, tell mac users this BEFORE they join if you use DRM Please???

OG LennyT 05-05-2006 04:43 PM

jesus.... do you need to ask?
