Is It Possible To Remove Popcorn Ceilings?
So that they are just regular flat surfaces instead of the crappy popcorn effect they have?
Anyone know how to go about doing this if it is possible? Regards, Lee |

go buy a huge roll of plastic for your carpet/hardwood floor tape it all the way up the wall. go get your hose with a nossle and set it to mist. go over the ceiling completely with water. let soak in for 20 minutes. then come back and spray it once more. it'll start to fall off. then go get one of those flat metal scraper thingies. scrape all that shit off and bam your done. it's a bitch and a mess but thats what you need to do. if you painted over that popcorn shit i think your fucked.

Hey, I'm going to be in the same predicament soon... I hate them with a passion. You can take a scraping tool and scrape it off, repaint it with flat paint, and you are good to go. Should only take about a days work. Well worth it.

Are you doing your whole house? Let me tell you that is a serious job! That scraping will give a neck ache like you wouldn't beleive. We started doing it in our house and then hired some guys to do it.
But, yes it can be done

You gotta pick your battles in life and scraping a popcorn ceiling shouldn't be one of them ... I'm with kacy, hire a pro.

Good Luck with that project. It totally sucks, but the end results are well worth it. If you do it yourself, make sure you wear a mask. The stuff does have some asbestos in it. Be careful how you get rid of it too. If you hire someone to do it for you, make sure their quote includes the disposal of it....(voice of experience)

It is possible, but worth every penny to hire a pro to do it. I seen it done by an amature and the ceilling can get badly scaped, its really messy and do you really want to keep your hands in the air for a long period of time.
