Submitting Galleries and why a database isn't the answer for everyone

I had a conversation with a newer gallery submitter today, and felt this might help some others out there so here is a copy of our ICQ conversation:

do you think im better off making very simple templates for galleries and submitting those
or copying the FHGs and submitting that

its best to get some templates designed jsut for you and submit those

yeah its all trial and error really, sometime a gallery is super simple and gets listyed and gets good ctr and sales, sometimes the most extensive pretty galleries dont get listed and get barely any clicks, but sometimes its vice versa too

right youd suggest finding the middle ground and not using fhgs we alraedy have

if your doing movie galleries you should make sure the clips are over 1mb

so you just have to test a few different things and keep track of what works and what doesnt

thats pretty much the best advice i can give you. keep track of colors you use, layouts, etc etc

for instance, if i gave you my database, you would probably not make any more than if you were to use the DS demo database

its because the sites in my personal database are sites that list me, and like my galleries, and i have partner accounts on

i did a project, we bought out every submitpass available from submitpasses.com

so you will see on the boards people talk about it being the database, but its kind of a combination of you and your relationship with the sites in your database, rather than just a database

i always tell people they need to submit for a while and pay attention to what the sites list and what they dont

then maybe buy a submit pass or two, and pay attention to which galleries they list, if any, and if they dont ask questions why, usually if you are paying they are more likely to give you an answer why

well i had a partner account to one place that just listed everything i gave them, so i figured that if i bought 20 partner accounts i would get the same treatment, but that wasnt the case at all, half of them only listed a third of what i submitted

some partner accounts i would get listed 2-4 times a month submitting 2-3 per day

thats why when buying accounts and spots its really important to only buy a few at a time so you can really pay attention to what your submitting, why they are listing it or why they are not, and what kind of results you are getting

After reading this over i jsut wanted to state, that i DO recommend buying accounts with submit passes, i have MANY myself.. just buy a few at a time to start, and see which ones work for you and which ones don't, and build from there.

So, how do you do this gallery submission thing? Do I have to use who-is to get the number and call the tgp owners up to ask them if they can add my gallery or something? I heard that works well.
