I can beat that. I received an email from a support company in reply to an email that I didn't actually send them. I had to email them back asking what they were emailing me about.

It's the Klez virus. We're getting 30 to 100 emails with this virus (120KB to 250KB) per day.

I get them all the time but when I get one I look at the header information and find where the e-mail originated and what the ip address was of the computer that sent the e-mail. I then send an e-mail with a copy of the header to the orgirnating server (usually an ISP) with a nice note saying" I have been receving e-mail that containd viruses I have included the header information along with the ip address of the sender. Could you please see if you can find who the e-mail is comming from and let them know that their computer has been infected with a virus" I usuall send the e-mai to [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. I almost never get a reply but the viruses usually stop comming from that server withing 3 days

I've been getting hit pretty hard for the last few weeks, although it seems to have calmed down some in the last week or so, I'm still getting 50-60 of them a day.

The way the current virus is set up, when someone gets infected it reads their hard drive for any email addresses that are stored (all address books including ICQ) and randomly chooses the addresses for the TO & FROM fields on the emails it sends out, making it that much more difficult to figure out who is actually infected and who isn't.

Check SYMANTEC's site. Apparently, there's 2 new virus variants out there lately that looks for addresses in your address book and sends out emails from your system with these people as the "FROM" addresses.

Yep, I'm being hit daily with these blank e-mails too. Now I'm starting to receive e-mail from myself and return e-mails I never sent! Does that mean I'm infected to??? I never run those damns scripts... what the hell!

I've got the av software running full strength and one of the fuckers got through the other night..don't ask me how but it did.

It was the sircam worm...anyway my software scans my machine nightly and it picked it up...and quarrantined it...but I downloaded the remover tool just in case and all is well.

The question is, when everyone's aware of these viruses, why are they still being transmitted? I see some small companies picking them up and sending replacement warning emails, but most seem to let them go. What's the deal with that..?

Ok...I've been getting these really really weird ones but just to my hotmail account. They go into my inbox instead of my junkmail and they will say normal things in the subject line like "hello", "hey there", "nice meeting you" so it makes you look like it's from someone you know.

Then when you open the email it is blank, with no attachment...

I get about 3-4 of these a day...
