Linksys WRT54GS Router Problems? Anyone else?

Man this router sucks. I've had it a couple of weeks and first of all, the range sucks. I fixed that with some antennas. Secondly, it frequently drops connections, especially when downloading/uploading a lot. Anyone else have problems with this router? Anyway to fix it? I'm about to take it back.

I heard you can fix the problems with a third party firmware, but I have Version 5, which has less memory then other versions and therefore, I cannot flash it with third party firmware.

Anyone recommend a good Linksys Wireless G router?

    thanks

I dropped mine because of the same problem. Same model number.

I have a WRT54G and never had a problem with mine. I have my media center all setup wirelessly. My xbox recieves my movies via a wireless bridge from one of my computers hosting my external media drives in my office across my apartment. I never seem to have a problem myself.

We've got the same router, we have to unplug it/plug it back in to get wireless working again quite often (Sometimes 10 times a day), going to smash it with a sledgehammer as soon as we switch to something else.

I think I will just take the damn thing back then.

This router has good reviews, but so does the WRT54GS, so I don't know... I thought Linksys was good...

I run DLink and have never once had an issue. I've probably had 6 dlink routers, 2-3 linksys.

I have Dlink wireless pci cards, but I have a Linksys signal booster(which I need to use), not sure if/how it would work with a Dlink router. Probably would....

i found it happened when using my shitty wireless card. get a new one and you'll be gold, I haven't had it shutdown in months when it used to be 5x daily.

I have a WRT54G, and it hasn't dropped a connection since I hooked it up.

That said, prior to this one, I had a Netgear, and took it back after about a week. Which was kind of weird, as I had ran a Netgear wired router for a few years, with zero problems.

The router came with the latest version of the firmware available....

The problem is I have version 5, which has less memory, so previous versions with more memory can get upgrades, but version 5 firmware has to be significantly different because of the smaller onboard memory. Who knows when/if there will be a fix.
