feel safe driving a pick up?

It was a 2000 f 150, I loved this truck, fucking driver in front of me slammed on her brakes, my bumper went under her rear bumper, Isuzu Trooper, then the impact sent her forward, ripping my front bumper, totaled!

shopping for a new truck tomorrow

i think you'd be generally safer than driving a civic but i guess it all depends on how/where you hit. when me and my friend were cruising around in his ranger we had a civic hit it from behind. the front end of the civic was totaled but the truck just had a small ding in it.

Going to try and find a truck just like this one, I took off the lumber rack and the tool box and the 600 watt stereo. Had full coverage, driving a Dodge charger rental right now, AIG insurance is working out pretty well for me!

Thats a bummer man. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Maybe its a sign you are ready for a new truck. I'm sure you like American trucks, but I used to have a Toyota Tundra. Best truck I've ever had or driven. I am a 4x4 freak and I put it to the test for 3 years. Never failed me.

I have to vouch for the Toyota trucks since they run forever and stand up great in accidents as well as getting pretty good gas mileage.

Pick ups and suv's are rated really really poor in terms of safety when compared with othe rmuch safer cars

http://www.informedforlife.org/CRSriskorder2006.pdf

Tundra was rated barely average, while other cars like the RL were rated super safe.

That sucks that you wrecked a vechile you like, I know how that is and it sucks ass. I've been there before.

But to be perfectly honest, you are the cause of your own situation. You were driving too close (and possibly too fast, too) for conditions. You obviously have had the vechile long enough to get to know its handling abilities (if you had it long enough to get attached, you've had it long enough to know how it behaves) and its your responsibility to leave ample stopping distance between vechiles.

People think that section in the driver's manual about leaving at least 5 car lengths between vechiles is just for kicks. It does have a purpose.

Suck it up, take responsibility and let it be a lesson to you. I hope it wasnt an expensive lesson to you or the person you hit.

I wasn't too close, the car I hit just changed lanes in between me and the car in front of her, then she slammed on the brakes, only going 50 mph. As far as changing insurance, they told me that my rate will not go up because I have such a clean record except for this

Oh, well, you didnt mention the "swoop and squat" part. That makes a big difference. You sure she didnt cause this accident intentionally? What is her insurance situtation?

Is she a dumb crack whore looking for money?

If you drove a car instead of a 10 tonne behemouth, then it would have stopped more quickly (both from weighing less and having decent brakes) and you would have most probably avoided the accident entirely.

Why not try a car this time?

My truck weighed 4000 pounds, had new brake pads, "antilock" and the tires only had maybe 5k miles on them. Are you the type that thinks everyone should drive an pedel car?

Obviously you know little about ford f150s (and pickups in general). F150s are 2-tonne and have excellent brakes. I know - I own one. You obviously missed the detail about what caused the accident.

I cant speak for this guy but for me a car is kinda useless...I do things that require a truck, its not just for point a-b driving.

Same here, I love working on my home and helping my mom with her property, so I need more than just a pick up bed, I have a lumber rack for stuff over 8ft long, I took that off the truck along with my tool box and 600 watt stereo.

You've never driven in city traffic? If you have a big space between you and the car in front of you, someone will change lanes and fill that space!

Glad you're OK Vend!

I drive an Exploder. It's my 2nd SUV and I will NEVER go back to a smaller car. I plan on buying a Jeep Wranger as my "mid life crisis sports car" (you have to be practical when you live on a 4WD only road). I'm in the market to buy another SUV now.

My Dad drives a Corvette. Scares the hell out me. It's his 2nd one - first one was broadsided and just crumpled. I cried when I saw it. I've offered to buy him a Hummer just so I know he's safe
