    Does anyone actually take legal action against copyright violations?

    All those file-uploading services like yourfilehost.com or rapidshare.de and pichosts like imagecash.com have tons of stuff uploaded... do you do anything about it?

    I mean you can't do much against filesharing networks like kazaa and such, but you can contact these sites' operators and get your content removed?!

    Has anyone ever done this successfully or even taken legal action against sb. because of copyright violations?

          Yea a lot of people have before... but it's not always cost efficient for the person protecting their rights.

                              We've recently been able to get a couple of pirated content sites to take our photos and videos OFFLINE IMMEDIATELY
                              (within 24 hours that is) by having "Cease and Desist" emails sent to them from a legal firm and a payment processor.

                              Both were highly successful - as they detailed the infringements and subsequent consequences. Sometimes the threat alone
                              of action is enough to scare them off it seems but... then again, if we had to go after each and every site that did this,
                              we'd be spending ALL our valuable time hunting them down...it's not really worth the hassle, especially not worrying about it.

                                                  Insane maybe, but still profitable for the YouTube clones. Their business plan does not include paying fines.... however most content owners do not include paying lawyer fees in their budget.

                                                  I wonder with the surplus of lawyers in the US why no one have organized MASS lawsuites against the YouTube clones?

                                                      Keep a lawyer on retainer. Send C&D's when applicable.

                                                      If they do not respond, start contacting their hosting and billing companies while pursueing legal action.

                                                      At some point, they wisen up. How do you think most people with sense know not to use Perfect 10, Suze Randall, and Playboy?
