Which sponsors spam or allow spam?

Yeah, this thread isn't going to make any friends.. I'm fed up.

I use sponsorname at studiocritic.com for my e-mail when I sign up for a program, this is a catchall box on my servers.

Some sponsors like selling/leaking/"omg we got hacked so sry" my e-mail addresses.

Does it stop at e-mail addresses, or our names, addresses, social security numbers?

To boost awareness of this issue, and put the pressure on the sponsors to stop:

Every time I receive a spam e-mail to anysponsorname AT studiocritic.com, I will be making a post here about it.

I encourage everyone else to do the same, our privacy matters - especially with the onslaught of indecency, taboo-of-the-day, et al.

I recently started using a catchall for sponsor addies. When I get all my current sponsors set up I am going to delete my old primary webmaster addy. It's full of stuff with subject lines just like you posted and obviously from sponsor(s) selling addies because the address has only ever been used for sponsors.

oh, and sponsors understand this:

i don't care if you sold it, or got hacked.

it's the same thing with exception to that one is by malice, the other by ignorance.

there's no room for either in these times

Well some sponsors have Privacy Policies that specifically state that they will do everything possible to protect your information.

Guess what? Some sponsors don't even have a privacy policy. So be weary of those that don't have privacy policies. Whether you like it or not, this industry is a Spam-filled industry. Think about it, I've primarily receive two types of spam: porn and pharmaceutical (viagra, cialis, etc).

I am running POPfile on my PC and filtering out spam. Received 31486 emails, 275 was classified incorrectly and 99.12% accuracy.

That's got nothing to do with sponsors selling your stuff. If their database has been breached, they took all that for themselves.

i signed up to 45-50 sponsors with one gmail address over the course of 2 days and sure enough in less than one week, the spam started rolling in. doesn't really bother me but its pretty pathetic if they have to spam lists of adult webmasters. you'd think just about any other kind of list would convert better than that.

Hey studiocritic, from the spam emails you posted, it looks like the exact same spammer is spamming every one of the emails you use, when you signup to a new sponsor. All those spam emails you posted look very similar, almost identical in form. That might mean, it is not your sponsors leaking your email addresses.

I do a simliar thing where i signup for each sponsor with a specific email address, [email protected], i keep track of it all in my aliases file.

Too biggest offenders of late:
Rookie Babes (about 20 a day and as high as 45 a day)
Nasty Dollars (about 10 a day - started two days ago)

I pulled all my traffic to rookie babes about 6 months ago when they started this shit. I'm thining about pulling my traffic from nastydollars too.

The emails are simliar to those posted above.

Mensniche should have a way to leave their newsletter, other than tick the spam button in thunderbird

That said, a catchall can be spammed by using a dictionary spam approach, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the sponsors

you do realize that all this spam reaks of a exploit in your own server right?

the fact that its hitting just about every sponsor e-mail you use....

"just about"?

I am signed up with probably over 100 sponsors..

I get spam from about 10.

To reply to SomeCreep above, those 4-5 sponsors I posted DO look all the same. Maybe they sold to the same person? Some of the other sponsors that I haven't received recently don't look the same.

If you look at my first post in the thread, I mention that I'll be posting them in near real-time as they come in, so you're seeing batches of spam from the same people probably.

So a dictionary attack didn't try "mike", "bob", or "sam".. but tried silvercash, mensniche, etc.. all common english words!

I don't use a catchall for my mail aliases, I create specific aliases for each sponsor, and these are email addresses getting spammed.

additionally to the already mentioned [email protected] style accounts, i also had my username@epass hit with the same kind of spam today. now i do not really know any dictionary sporting words including numbers or underscores. would i need to update my dictionary, you reckon?

studiocritic yo,

you have to see that all of your spam posted in this thread is the "exact same", meaning that it is from the same SPAMMER

now what are the odds that all these companies sold your list to the same spammer? you know what I mean?

could it just be that somehow this spammer has all your [email protected] and sending all the spam there?

think about it before you go hitting on the sponsors

I think you should use more unique addresses, like sponsor<randomnumber>@yourdomain.com.

My epass email also gets spammed - something I didn't realise until I set up forwarding as they filter their webmail - but I've only ever sent or received payments to/from a small group of webmasters and programs.

I really don't get it, why spam webmasters with "consumer" stuff.....
