its not done intentionally. When a list has 1.5 million emails, 1,499,000 could be consumers and 1000 could turn out to be webmasters. No mailer would ever send to a webmaster-only list - it wouldnt make them any money (and that is the reason they are in business..)

People need to realize that just because the address getting spammed is a 'webmaster' email address doesnt imply that the entire list is made up webmaster email addresses.

of course but where do they get it from is what i'd like to know. i really doubt spammers add a program name to domains they mail to. some spammers are really stupid though and don't remove webmaster@ or admin@ or even .gov or .edu domains. for the past couple weeks i've been getting bounce backs from a stock spammer using all that and more.

In any case, we have the same problem - consumer/surfer spam is being sent to our *UNIQUE* sponsor email addresses. These adresses are not obvious (or guessable) and it looks like the sponsors have somehow let the affiliate email addresses out.

What's up with that?

Is our affiliate application/data leaked, lost, hacked and/or distributed?

when i read the sponsor names involved, it seems they all use the same billing service.

granted i didn't check on all of them, but those that i am familiar with seem to.

and even the epassporte mail being spammed would suit that picture.

bump for this thread.. i receive bullshit spam from sponsors all the time.. not naming names.. but i have notified them and they haven't done shit to stop it. I would think that one would realize anyways that spamming Adult Webmasters with anything but good deals on drugs and alcohol would be a complete waste of time/money !

Ditto that. The billing processor seems to be common to most of the sponsor email spam.

and again, no one cries foul, does anything about it.. if this is indeed the case, i predict this biller will lose $0 in business over leaking info.

Why ANY sponsor, whether they accept mail or not, would EVER send mail to webmasters is beyond me.

We accept compliant mail, if we got a complaint from a webmaster along these lines, accounst would be cancelled forthwith.

Done accordinging to the established provisions there is NOTHING wrong with email.

And there you go, you have it from a sponsor... the problem is.. people confuse SPAM with MAIL. There is a HUGE difference.

The only people that whinge and whine and complain about legitimate email marketing are those who cannot do it themselves. IMHO.

In your case, someone may well have backdoored your PC mate... seems TOO many coinceidences ....

NOTE FOR ALL:
To test if someone is sucking your emails from the inside, set up an email address that is NOT used anywhere, but is set up in your email client. If you receive mail addressed to that, you have been hacked.

It happened to me a long time ago and ended up with a reformat and reinstall to get rid of it.

The whole point of this thread was to show that unique email addresses used to sign up to a single sponsor are receiving consumer spam. That address has to get on your big list somehow...

I don't use a catchall but i do use seperate email addresses for every sponsor. Those are UNIQUE addresses, containing a combination of a string based on the sponsors name and a random string.

Thing is, I'm getting spam to [email protected] (the address i used to signup) and not to

....

What are the chances of a spammer guessing a random strig like that...

Spam's outta control lately. I usually get 1-200 a day. Lately it's been about 800 a day. :Oh crap

being new to what we do on the web as previously we have been in production for a long time. how are we supposed to learn if this is what we have to deal with
I once had a problem i really didnt understand when through ccbill for some reason when i tried to e-mail OUR affiliates with passcodes it sent 2000 or more (i dont know) e-mails to what i can only think was from their database

I got so much shit and didnt and still dont understand what happened
