The best and worst years of your life - financially and emotionally

What were the best and worst 12 month periods in your life as far as your overall emotional happiness?

What about the best 12 months financially? Is there any correlation?

I happened to notice when thinking back that the worst 12 months of my life emotionally/mentally probably happened to be the BEST 12 months of my life financially... I was making huge money but my life wasn't right. Just a cooincidence I guess, but kind of interesting.

Some people think that if they make decent coin, everything else falls into place. Doesn't quite work out like that.

Good questions, i'd have to think about that one though...

About 10 years ago my father died which was sad. Then I inherited an old farm house from him. It was my childhood home and even though the place was falling apart I loved it because I felt so comfortable there. Then about 10 months after i moved in, the tenant I was renting to left a cigarette burning and burned the whole place to the ground. That was very sad, a year of some very hard losses.
The upside to this whole thing was the insurance, the only bill I ever paid on time, paid twice what the house was worth on the open market. So although it was a very distressful year, it ended up being the best financial year of my life.
Not that any amount of money makes up for the loss of a loved one.

Worst day in recent past was the day I was laid off from my job and forced to go into business for myself.
Best day was year later when I ended my tax year making twice as much as I ever did before because I started my own business.

Good for you. That does prove that money can definitely bring happiness. It wasn't bringing it for me during my big year, but the money I made then is playing a big factor in why I am happy now, with the freedom it provides.

I have noticed that most of your worst year comes very close with your best year. Life is indeed full of ironies.

You have a good point that money doesnt bring you happiness but it depends on how it is spent. It brought me happiness this way.
- My sons (2years old) college tuition is secured.
- More time at home
- Never having to worry about a collection agency calling
- Really enjoy time with my friends and family without worrying about work the next day
Wise investing and modest lifestyle cant take you farther then you think.
