Is the president of Iran crazy, or is he really smart?

So what's Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad up to now?

Well, in case you didn't happen to be listening to Iranian state radio this week, Ahmadinejad is proposing a jihad on the way oil is priced around the world. Pay attention: This guy may be crazy - but if so, he's crazy like a fox.

Not content to quietly count Iran's multibillion-dollar petrol bonanza and terrorize the world with his nuclear ambitions, this week the Iranian leader urged OPEC to adopt a policy whereby industrial countries would pay the "real price of oil."

You see, as Ahmadinejad explained, even at a record $75 a barrel, crude is priced well below its "true value." Iranian lawmakers have said $100 a barrel or more is more like it.

Meantime, he says OPEC should set aside a quota "for poor consumers with better prices." If the Tyrant of Tehran gets his way, Americans will be longing for $3-a-gallon gas.

This isn't the first time the Iranian leader cooked up plans to disrupt the global oil markets without pulling a single barrel of production or even alluding to an oil embargo.

Several months ago, he suggested that OPEC start selling its oil for euros rather than dollars - a move that might not only destabilize the greenback but drive down demand for Uncle Sam's IOUs.

And why not? The leadership in Tehran is laughing all the way to the bank as the country finds itself in the enviable position of being able to directly cash in on the fear and chaos it whips up in world markets.

Which brings us to China. As China's President Hu Jintao was greeted with a 21-gun salute on the South Lawn of the White House, China became the world's fourth-largest economy (supplanting Great Britain). It is now second only to the U.S. in the amount of oil it imports - and about 15 percent of that oil comes from Iran.

What's more, Chinese demand is expected to double by 2009.

So what is Congress going to do about $75-a-barrel oil? Well, the Democrats are apparently going to take a page from the Iranians.

On Thursday, the Iranian oil minister was quick to blame the rising price of fuel on a shortage of gasoline in the U.S. and not on world markets.

Blame Big Oil, blame the U.S. refiners. It's right out of the Democrats' mid-term election play book - and no doubt it makes for good sound bites.

Too bad it will go a long way toward playing into the Iranian dictator's hands and do nothing to help out U.S. motorists this summer.
What do you think?

I think the US consumers should start to pay the same price for gas as europeans, start selling those big-ass SUV's for scrap-metal and start to follow the Kyoto treaty.
..but I have no opinion on this thread.

I posted this before and I still think it's the right thing. I think $5 a gal gas will be good for this country. Nothing is going to get our govt to push alternative fuels than $5 a gal oil.

There is no reason this country can't push the use of solar energy and other alternative fuel sources. So while the $5 a gal oil might hurt the wallet for the short term.. Over the long term it will be the best thing that ever happens top this country.

Then we can let the jihad bastards over there in the middle east rot in their own hell trying to figure out what they will do with all the oil we aren't buying. I say fuck them give them what they want..

That goes for you European boys as well.. you guys can get off your asses too and start working on alternative fuel sources. All of us Western countries need to get off the oil addiction and let the middle east go back to the stone ages if thats what they want.

I hope it goes to $10 a gallon or higher. Then it will go high enough to make it cheaper to power vechiles with renewable resources than with gasoline. The road to that destination is gonna be very painful though. The fact of the matter is this country is on the verge of economic collapse right now and this may very well be the straw that breaks the camel's very frail back.

If we look back to the 1980s oil crisis, we can learn alot. Back then oil skyrocketed. Guess what else went up? Gold -- all the way to $800 an ounce. And Gold is going up like a rocket right now too. It looked like it might break $700 an ounce but then went back down as people took profits. The market is extremely volatile right now. But I couldnt be happier, this is a great market for me. I have about 6,000 ounces of silver that I have aquired over the years at anywhere between $5 and $7.80 an ounce and I couldnt be happier with performance of my investments right now. But I digress.

I am not sure what term I like best right now to describe the president in Iran. I think he is about send America a message like he was Western Union, that much I do know.

To add to that the US will eventually adopt better fuel sources.. IMO you can already see it starting to happen.. I see more and more talk about solar power, wind power, ethanol and hybrid cars. So it may not seem like it from the out side but things are starting to happen in the US.

The problem is going to be China in the next 10 to 20 years. Free industry and the American people will drive the changes here in the US. However in China they already have major polution issues and it will only get worse.

It doesn't matter what Bush does or doesn't do.. the stuff that's happing now is happening at local govt level. Several states already give tax rebate for switching to solar power at your house.

Hell just this year on Jan 1st Florida finally jumped on the bandwagon as one of the states offering tax breaks if you switch to solar power.

In Cali according to a program I watched last night on HBO, they are working on a entire solar powered power plant that will put out as much energy as a normal power plant.

It may take a little time, but eventually the federal govt will catch on, so the time is coming.

You may have missed that Iran is being armed by Russia. With high tech missiles.

Opening a third front will over extend you.

Russia will exploit by taking South Korea. China will take Taiwan and The Philipines.

Good luck.
