Is 1and1 registrar adult friendly?

I'm seeing full multi-page ads for 1and1.com in several magazines (one being 16 pages long). That must cost them a fortune.

Are they confirmed to be adult friendly like DirectNic, Moniker, GoDaddy, etc... ?

I would stay away from them personally.

Years ago before I knew better I registered a domain name and had a hosting account with them. When I switched hosts, they dropped the domain. Made me pay $80 to give me the right to "buy it back". I'm not sure on the details, but I remember it was some pretty scammy shit they were pulling.

They have been known to pull other shit too. Making it difficult to not renew your domains (they have made people sign and fax a form saying they wish not to renew), double billing, billing after you've cancelled, on top of non-existent support.

I'm sure some people have had great experiences but when it comes to domains, I'd prefer to spend a little more to be safe (which is why I use Moniker). Just run some Google searches on 1and1 and see the loads of sites with complaints.

Yeah, I have about 100 domains with them. I wish I had registered them all with Namecheap though. I stopped regging new ones with them last year. Their control panel sucks donkey balls.

This is why I still have some of that 100 domains over there. 30 of them I didn't even want.

Any company that needs to resort to those kind of tactics to make money don't have the best interest of their clients in mind. Moniker is by far the best registrar I've ever dealt with. If you buy enough domains, hitting them up for a discount is not out of the question too I believe.

it always depends on what your needs are...
1and1 is hard as hell to transfer away from (you have to fill out paper work like nominet)
However, they are cheap as hell, the largest web host out there etc...
(5.99 is below wholesale price)

I dont know what you mean by "adult friendly" though.

Steer clear of 1and1!!!

Here is part of an E-mail they sent me before locking my account.
It took almost 2 weeks to transfer the domain away from them and get it up and running again... So I wouldn't recommend them AT ALL!
---------------------------------------------------
Although the hosting of adult content is not illegal per say, 1&1 does not
wish to be known as a host provider for these services. Please remove the
requested file content and domain names.

Please reply to this e-mail in acknowledgment of this issue. Failure to do so
can result in your account being locked.

Yes, you can host adult website. Please take note section 6.2.5 of the terms and conditions. Please refer to this link.

Read the '6.2.5' and it's even MORE vague than the american version of 1and1's terms and conditions...
