The Canadian man who committed suicide after killing two sex offenders revealed his hatred for sexual predators on a haunting personal Web site that instructs visitors on how to spot pedophiles and ?kill yourself like a man.?
The online rantings of Stephen A. Marshall, 20, offer a chilling glimpse into the demons of a young man whose lighthearted preferences for Cherry Coke and loud music clash with expressions of disdain for ?gays,? ?drag queens? and ?children who need to be slapped.?
In one segment of his Web site, Marshall goes on a tirade in which he lists dislikes that include ?loudmouths, society, the media, cancer, women in general, the beautiful people . . . and the disgusting commercialization of our daily lives.?
The Web site, which was taken down yesterday by Lycos because of inappropriate content, also includes a favorite Web link of Marshall?s that tells visitors they can spot sexual predators based on the way they smile. The same link illustrates methods of suicide and rates them by ?manliness,? ?style,? ?awesomeness? and ?mess.?
The site has become part of a police investigation into what apparently motivated the 20-year-old dishwasher to murder sex offenders William Elliott 24, and Joseph Gray, 57, during an Easter Sunday rampage in rural Maine.
Investigators returned from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, yesterday after interviewing Marshall?s distraught friends and family to try to learn what triggered the bloodshed. Police are also examining a laptop computer Marshall was carrying when he shot himself with a .45-caliber handgun as police surrounded him on a bus outside South Station.
Family members said yesterday they were not aware of Marshall?s Web site, which was created when he was living with his biological father in the Idaho panhandle. ?We would like to know more about all of this,? Marshall?s stepfather, Keith Miles, said, adding that the family also did not know the details of a 2001 arrest in which Marshall, then 15, was charged with threatening another teen with an assault rifle.
Marshall?s Web site, which includes his e-mail address of [email protected], also contains a link he applauds as having the ?sweetist (sic) pics of weapons that you can find anywhere.? There are also links to flash animations of ?small cute animals being disemboweled? and all one needs to ?arrange himself with a Russian mail order bride.?
In the random mix of tributes and oddities, there are also indications that Marshall, described by former teachers as a bright young man with a lively sense of humor, was struggling with his nomadic childhood, bouncing from Texas, to Nova Scotia, to Idaho and then to Arizona.
?Please e-mail me, I?m lonely,? Marshall wrote at the bottom of his Web page. ?For the love of lesbian spacemonkeys just click the damn button! Please!?
