Should I read The Fountainhead before I read Atlas Shrugged?

I don't want to unless it would ruin the Fountainhead not to

Thanks

Does it really matter? I read the Fountainhead but have not read Atlas Shrugged yet. I found it an incredible story.

It was a great read all on it's own, I'm sure both novels are.

Pick one and have at it.

I'd skip Ayn Rand all together. If you're going to read a "big book" try Pychon's V.

Ayn Rand is one of those rare writers who is quite simply in a class by herself.

Read The Fountainhead first.

Stylistically, they are both rather bad books, but in The Fountainhead the passion behind the ideas is enough to save the book, and even make it a great one. Atlas Shrugged, on the other hand, is too simple, too blunt. It is still a decent read, and will definitely make you feel what she's writing, but it tries to explain too much and almost (actually, scrap the almost) spells out what everything means and is.

Simply put, The Fountainhead is a better book, and where Atlas forces a flawed but all-encompassing framework of thought upon the reader, The Fountainhead allows him to develop his own thoughts and feelings upon the matter.

Atlas Shrugged is one of my all time favorite books. I've never read The Fountainhead.
