Does It Help Your Business By Being Located In A Small Town Or Large City?
Do you find that where you live is positive to your business or negative? I lived in Vancouver for a year and I LOVED it! It was great for business (lots of webmasters in Vancouver) but trying to get any work done there was difficult because there was tons of distractions.
I live now in a small town which is cool but if I want to network with other webmasters I have to either go to Toronto (where there is lots) or travel to a show. Sure living in a small town keeps you grounded but there isn't a hell of a lot to do here. Do you find living where you live is a pro or a con? DH |

another advantage to the small town is the cheaper cost of living and doing business.

I have never been much for the big city. Life is short though, if you enjoy spending time with other webmasters, why not move a bit closer to the city?

On the net ... my guess is a smaller town because youll find a lot of workers for cheap.
if you sell products, chances are that in the small town there will be no competition or very little, wich will help you grow faster... Once you get a certain point you need a bigger marketpalce to grow the business thought. |

I live out in a small town and its great but def hard ont he social life. Plus no cable we had to put a T1 line in. I wouldnt trade it though. If I want to hit seattle I can get there in an hour and a half and spend the weekend. I much prefer trees and water
![]() In regards to networking it helps that its a web based business because you can get a lot of networking done online or with trips to shows. All and all I would stick with the small town ![]() |

Good topic
![]() We live in a small town of 40k - and its too small to have many potential local models to work with. So yes, our location definitely has a negative impact on business at times. In the 80s I lived in Toronto and although I grew to hate the big city...I look back on it now and think of missed opportunities had I been doing then what I do now. But I don't regret a small town. Would much sooner live in a quiet little place than listen to drive-by shootings, hear about home invasions, multi-car pileups and all the other fun stuff Toronto has to offer. Infinitely preferrable for raising a family, too. |

A small town is the best to work and all then you can travel and see other people in the industry. The best is to convince some friends to move closer then you are set.

I think it depends on what kind of business you are in. Usually younger people are more attracted towards the bigger cities because they have more opportunities! Anyways, if you know what you are doing or what you can do, you can run your business anywhere!
