How do we warn away MINORS from PORN?

Not looking for a definition of the legal requirements. Just kinda brainstorming here a bit, thinking what the most effective thing might be, as well as the right thing.

Everybody knows that "DONT" gets read as "OOOOH, DO!" by young adults.

Maybe something like: "Hey, maybe ya shouldn't..."

Curious to hear your ideas/suggestions.

We all know the only way to keep most minors away is to not put explicit content in our tours, and to not give out free content in the form of galleries, etc. Of course, every pornographer in every country on the planet would have to agree to that. And even if we all did, and assuming no amateurs produced any sites just as a turn on:

We all also know that even if you have to use a credit card to get the porn, many minors will simply "borrow" one from their parents, etc.

The only way to keep minors away from porn, is for said minors to have responsible parents that do their god damn jobs.

This isn't an issue with "us", it's an issue with "them". And of course "they" want to blame "us" for not doing "their" jobs for "them".

I think I got that all right.....

Yeah, but what would you say to little Kenneth or Joe-Ellen, at the moment their finger is hovering over the mouse?

There is little you can do w/o becoming a police state. Anything from software, to other possible solutions require giving up too much as a citizen.

However.. what the federali's need to keep in mind is MOST of us do not want minors for anything. Not only is it illegal, they are surfer, but they do not have credit cards.

Let's face it. In this business, we only care for people who can BUY SOMETHING.

i think that the only true solution is blocking software combined with an icra type tagging system combined with a national ad campaign by the govt to tell parents how to get the blocking software.

its really an easy fix if you ask me. if the govt wants to pass legislation it should be a govt provided blocking software and a required labeling of adult sites.

anything less will result in the same ineffective measures that we have today. if the govt makes things too tough in the US then people will just move offshore and then there will be zero control...

For it to be 90% effective I'd say fax in copy of government issued I.D... other than that there's really no way to prevent minors from accessing porn. And there's no way every TGP and P2P program is about to start getting people to fax ID's to surf their sites/use their programs... it'll just be way to much work... UNLESS there was a central bureau such as an AVS system who's sole purpose is to verify the ages of surfers who wish to access explicit material on the web and the surfer would just log in using the username/password registered with the bureau...

I can't see many website owners who would willingly use this system out of the goodness of their hearts, there's no way they would take that big of a traffic loss... even though a good percentage of the TGP surfers are probably minors, they price their gallery/ad spots according to the volume of traffic the sites receive and big numbers definetly drive more ad sales...

Most likely won't happen until government steps in. I can also see the next generation of operating systems implementing much more user-friendly parental controls for the not so computer literate parents out there. There are lots btw.

I dunno. I was just curious. I found myself trying to get inside the kid's head, AND his parents' heads. It was trippy.

An admirable sentiment but you have as much chance of keeping kids away from porn as you do keeping maggots off a dead animal on the side of the road.

Too bad that's not true. The TGP owners with their millions of crap hits / day care about their counter so they can charge more for partner accounts.

Well that's true in regards to traffic for the TGP owner.

However, if you look at adult industry as a whole, most want little to nothing to do with minors because they can't buy memberships, DVD, webcams, etc.

Well see, yeah... that's true.

There is no pretending the inevitable is not inevitable. Any parent that does not FOREsee SEXUALITY in the future life of their child is an idiot or in denial. But I am not a parent, so I mayn't judge.

However, I think in everybody's case it's true...

YOU FOUND PORN.
PORN DID NOT FIND YOU.
But there was the (perhaps not the best word here) illusion of greater difficulty of access before the Internet. It was in the garage, or under some boxer shorts in a drawer, or maybe it just came on when you pressed "play" on the VCR.

I don't think children should be on the internet, there are too many harmful things that children can be exposed to online.

It should NOT be the job of an adult webmaster to protect children from viewing their websites, that is the job of the childs parents.

You know what would be a much better idea than all this .xxx bullshit 'claiming' to protect minors.

An intranet developed with ONLY websites for kids, to begin with it could have websites from TRUSTED sources e.g. BBC etc and develop from there

This way you could have a 100% TRUST driven service that children could use without being exposed to all of the dangerous things on the internet

I don't think 2HP was wanting a debate on what to DO..he merely wanted some ideas of good warning page text that may actually get a minor's attention.

Here's my idea:

If you are under 18 and are looking at this page, chances are you have some curiosities and questions you hope to answer. But you won't find what you are looking for in this site. For a real, honest, look at sexuality in terms you can relate to, check out http://www.scarleteen.com/

you don't. they will find someway to access it...when i was 8 i use to steal hustler, black tail, playboy's from the corner store...how i walk past the display and grab one and hide it/them behind some shelves..buy something and come back the next day and get them/it....i did this for months...i was a minor and they set provisons up to keep minors like myself from seeing this porn...did it work and it won't ever work....fuck what people say..where there's a will there's.....

the only thing to do is set-up a warning page..i find this to be VERY helpful

Ok, when i was 14-15 i did whatever my parents told me not to do, LOL

They said dont smoke - i did
They said dont watch porn - i did
They said dont have sex - i did

My little brother (13) is the same way. I told him, watch porn i dont give a shit. For some reason he doesnt find it all that amusing now, lol. In school me and my friends always find ways to get around the stupid filters and watched porn. I remember getting suspanded for 2 weeks because i forgot to ged rid of my history on the computer and teacher caught it.

Remember when you were actually a minor? If you were determined to get to it, you would.

Meaning the key is PARENTAL SUPERVISION, which unfortunately is out of our hands.

...and even more unfortunately, the parents would rather blame us than themselves.

There is NOTHING "we" can do. Our warning page is plenty.

Time for the parents to step up.

I'm getting tired of this.

Between good old-fashioned supervision and software, anyone under the age of 18/21 shouldn't have ANY access to ANYthing they're not supposed to see.
