Pop-Ups ... Do They Still Work?

With many people online using windows XP, I wonder if pop-ups are still effective? Windows XP has a built in pop-up blocker and so I am assuming that form of advertising my be obsolete soon.

Comments?

Im not sure about pop-ups, but there are other ad programs that slide the ad into view within the page. I thinks is javascript, but Im not sure.

nah!!! Haven't seen them for a long time. Right!! This form of AD will not be that effective anymore, unless they'll finsd a way to get in a blocker.

pop UPS are dead, I still use some popunders with good effect on some sites, and I've had some luck with AJAX floaters...

Yes, they do still work; we're still almost selling out of our inventory. Now, the total amount of exit pop-ups available has been greatly reduced in the past 3 years, because of SP2 and other blockers.

Some of my buyers say that the blockers actually work in their favour to improve the quality. Sophisticated users are blocked, but the net newbies (those most likely to accept sales messages) have not yet learned how to block pop-ups.

Hi Ravo,

Even for the newbies - who use XP - isn't the Pop-Up blocker automatically installed?

Take a look at this sliding advertising
______http://www.tek-tips.com/threadminder.cfm?pid=729
only few minutes need to understand this HTML code and the size of the sliding window could be unlimited with a lot of advertising.

Bypassing SP2 with exit consoles still contributes nicely to my revenue stream.

Are you using a particular ad server or just something of your own?

We dont mess with exit popups... some say, "well, your losing money".....

ive been around since 96, and I dont consider myself as having lost a thing.

We havent lost money, and we arent profiting somewhere else off our affiliates traffic, where they wont see a dime.
