Dude, you've gotta get some Big Sugar:

- Groundhog Day
- Ride Like Hell
- Tired All the Time

These are 3 great songs, but all of there stuff rocks

Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Lightnin Hopkins, Albert King, Elmore James (wrote The Sky Is Crying Which Stevie Ray Vaughn is known for) Bobby Blue Bland, and last but not least still doing over 250 shows a year, Mr BB King.

Dont know how serious you plan on getting into the Blues, being from New Orleans its quite a part of me, if you are able to find, old/early Dr John, rare Leonard Peltier, or Big Al Carson (plays the Funky Pirate on Bourbon 6 nights a week) it those a listen...

The Blues Is Blood

He's done some straightahead blues, like Red House Blues (hope I got that title right).

When it comes to electric slide guitar, check out Dave Hole . He's an Aussie dude, plays guitar backwards, like Jimi, so he holds the slide over the neck instead of from under it. I saw him in a club several years ago and it was, no doubt, the hottest live blues club gig I've seen in my life, and at 55, I've seen quite a few. Of course, for slide guitar, you need to consider Micheal Bloomfield (died of heroin back in the 70's, but has a whole bunch of good shit with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band) and (who could forget) Ry Cooder.

And then, two who are in a class by themselves:

Lonnie Mack
David Lyndley

Don't forget Steve Morse, either. His music is kind of hard to define, crossing over rock, jazz, blues, and fusion all at once.

My personal favorite for urban electric blues, though, has to be Gary Moore. He's a blues player with the solid technique and speed of the best heavy metal and classical guitar players. Just mind-blowingly fluent on guitar. Nobody is quite like him. There is a commercial music video of him out playing with some of the original electric bluesmen (Albert King, Albert Collins, and a few others), and it's a must-have for any blues collectors video collection.

He isn't strictly blues (plays some jazz, rockabilly, country, straight up rock, etc.) but you HAVE to check out Danny Gatton - often referred to as the "World's Greatest Unknown Guitarist". Used to gig around the D.C. area a lot - unfortunately committed suicide in '96.

Also check out Ray (or maybe Roy?) Buchanan.

Did you forget she specified "electric guitar/blues player"? Robert Johnson never saw an electric guitar in his life, because Les Paul invented the instrument several decades later.

Danny Gatton was great. Both he and Roy Buchanan (another guitar monster) hung themselves.

Sorry to go off topic.. but i had to point out a classical guitarist..

John Williams.

Truely amazing stuff.
I can't think of any noteable blues stuff that hasn't been mentioned already...

Excpet for maybe Leon Thomas. But that doesn't have a whole lot of electric guitars in it

Lee,

if you're looking for mellow, moody kinda jazz and blues can't beat Earl Klugh or even George Benson

Never heard of him, but now I have!

Wow, I almost forgot John McLaughlin. *The Inner Mounting Flame* by The Mahavishnu Orchestra is a jazz-rock fusion album that STILL blows my mind. Raspy, raucus, playing by one of the fastest guitar players who ever lived.
