New Version of Firefox 1.5.02 Has Been Released - GoFuckYourself.com

Firefox 1.5.02 has been released. Just did the update and all went smooth.

Good idea to always back up your bookmarks/profile first whenever doing major updates.

Also check for updates on your themes and extensions and do those updates first and one restart before the new install.

I did an uninstall on my 1.5.0 version first and then executed the upgrade.

Here is a program you can use for backing up Firefox and/or Thunderbird.

Be sure you close Firefox before you do backups.

New features on 1.5.02 include:

* Universal Binary support for Mac OS X which provides native support for Macintosh with Intel Core processors. Firefox supports the enhancements to performance introduced by the new MacIntel chipsets.
* Improvements to product stability.
* Several security fixes.
* Memory fixes.

I tried the original Opera before I went to FF. Its ok, but I wasn't crazy about the layout compared to FF which is much more slimlined.

Both are superior compared to IE. That's for sure.

True, you should be aware that if you ever lose your bookmarks in a freak accident, since version 1.5, by default, bookmark copies of the past 5 days are kept in:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxx.default\book markbackups

Excellent browser - and can only get better

It's almost like the development of Perl... all "amateurs" working in cohesion and with plenty enthusiasm. Makes any corporate-developed browser redundant.

ie is pre-loaded when you boot windows , with a a few tweaks you can do the same with firefox

Compared to the previous version, which left little copies of itself running, blew up regularly and generally had me cursing, this one seems solid and not at all into blowing itself up.

Give it a few days, but so far so good.

The memory leaks are far from gone ... just slowed down

I had one browser with 8 tabs open climb up to 318'000K over maybe 8 hours

It is a bandaid solution ... but still better than IE IMHO

In a perfect world, Opera would support extensions.
