Senators Baucus and Pryor Author Bill to Create Mandatory Adult TLD
by Q. Boyer

WASHINGTON, DC ? Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Mark Pryor (D-AR) introduced new legislation today that would serve to require websites that contain ?material that is harmful to minors? to operate from a new Top-Level Domain. The senators suggest .xxx as an example of such a domain, and a press release on Pryor?s website makes it clear that this bill is targeting adult entertainment, despite the fact that the language of the bill would require sites that offer other forms of ?harmful matter? to operate from the new TLD, as well.

Read the rest of this nonsense here...

Maybe someone fighting against this will take my earlier thoughts on an easier solution to protect the children into consideration.

fairly easy, ISPs will provide an option to stop resolving all .xxx domains and boom, you are gone.

I always wondered why .xxx domains are a bad thing? Everyone seems to be upset by them, Webmasters AND the Bush Administration alike. Would it push ALL porn sites into the .xxx level domains and ban them from using anything else?

If this .xxx thing does go through (and the Bush Administration won't let that happen from what I read), it's going to be a nasty, crazy landrush.

This is valid and Max Baucus belongs to democratic party, but this is not the first attempt to pass legislations that affect the industry. At the age of 65 and after having served to all unrelated fields I don't see how this person regardless his legal experience is capable to propose a fair law.

.xxx story has been going on a good 6-7 years now. The republican voices against it are the most radical seeking complete disappearance of online pornogrpahy; at least in the form you experience it right now. In order to achieve it they throw cp in the mixer and make a salad.

If this becomes a law that will be enforced in the long run it will affect most aspects of your online adult business regardless where you'll be located.

If you will recall, the administration was against it the last time it came up. This time it is the Democrats that are proposing it.

One thing on our side is that the Dems are not very good at getting things their way lately.

Democrat/Republican in most cases they are no different. You must remember this is a Christian country blessed by God. Anything that infringes on the good God fearing morals this country is based on will be attacked by both parties.

Someone needs to watch that how a bill becomes a law saturday morning cartoon lmao.

http://www.school-house-rock.com/wav/bill.wav

Quote:
Boy: Whew! You sure gotta climb
a lot of steps to get to this
Capitol Building here in
Washington. But I wonder who
that sad little scrap of paper is?

I'm just a bill.
Yes, I'm only a bill.
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee,
But I know I'll be a law some day
At least I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still just a bill.

Boy: Gee, Bill, you certainly have a lot of patience and courage.
Bill: Well, I got this far. When I started I wasn't even a bill, I was just an idea.
Some folks back home decided they wanted a law passed, so they called
their local Congressman, and said, "You're right, there oughta be a law."
Then he sat down and wrote me out and introduced me to Congress. And I
became a bill, and I'll remain a bill until they decide to make me a law.

I'm just a bill
Yes I'm only a bill,
And I got as far as Capitol Hill.
Well, now I'm stuck in committee
And I'll sit here and wait
While a few key Congressmen discuss
and debate
Whether they should let me be a law.
How I hope and pray that they will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Boy: Listen to those Congressmen arguing! Is all that discussion and debate about you?
Bill: Yeah, I'm one of the lucky ones. Most bills never even get this far. I hope they
decide
to report on me favorably, otherwise I may die.
Boy: Die?
Bill: Yeah, die in committee. Ooh, but it looks like I'm gonna live!
Now I go to the House of Representatives, and they vote on me.
Boy: If they vote yes, what happens?
Bill: Then I go to the Senate and the whole thing starts all over again.
Boy: Oh no!
Bill: Oh yes!

I'm just a bill
Yes, I'm only a bill
And if they vote for me on Capitol Hill
Well, then I'm off to the White House
Where I'll wait in a line
With a lot of other bills
For the president to sign
And if he signs me, then I'll be a law.
How I hope and pray that he will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Boy: You mean even if the Whole Congress says you
should be a law, the president can still say no?
Bill: Yes, that's called a veto. If the president vetoes
me, I have to go back to Congress and they vote
on me again, and by that time you're so old...
Boy: By that time it's very unlikely that you'll become
a law. It's not easy to become a law, is it?
Bill: No!

But how I hope and pray that I will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Congressman: He signed you, Bill!
Now you're a law!
Bill: Oh yes!!!

If the adult industry had the NRA on it's side, this would not only never pass - it would never be proposed ... (No, I don't condone the NRA - just the point that as "community" the adult industry has many $$$ millions but I think, zero political influence)

They are using the reasoning that a pedo could target .kids to get directly at children, so adult stuff should be on .xxx.

As if the preditors will voluneteer to move to .xxx and off of .com.

That feeble explanation is for older Americans and rural hicks who don't understand that it makes no sense. Unfortunately there is enough of these people to support it being passed.

lol...

"Require".. I wonder how they could even administrate and control it with the size and speed of internet today. Not to mention the form; u dont even need a domain to make a website, an IP is enough.
It would cost less money and ressources educating parents and schools to install filters etc and reduce the "harm", instead of creating "underground markets".
Unfortunately this is about votes and not big pictures.

That feeble explanation is for older Americans and rural hicks who don't understand that it makes no sense. Unfortunately there is enough of these people to support it being passed.

I just figured it would be easier to go after people that violated the .kids rules than to try to go through the entire internet and try to deal with any site that isn't on .xxx .

Is going to be just mandatory for the US webmasters? Anyway if xxx is introduced everyone will buy it just in case the fucked up government changes the rules again.

Where is the outrage? Lets hear from the usual moon-bats.
So true, I remember Hilary Clinton (also democrat I guess) trying to organize campaign to ban metal music to prevent suicidal tendencies among the listeners.
