    I need a new laptop! Help Me! What to get?

    after many years of loyal service, my first ever laptop i got, which i never ever had a problem with, my toshiba satellite, pentium 2, 850mhz, has finally taken its last breath. the lan card went out and i realize now how slow it really is. (my desktop is a ferarri pretty much)

    what ya got?


    i will use it for travel to shows, light html/php/css editing, and light image processing and maybe a little photoshop.

                  Honestly I use dells.

                  You can pick up a decent one for 500/800 bucks. I pretty much consider em throw aways. They work strong for about a year, Then toss em and get a new one.

                  As cheap as they are, and as fast as shit changes, no reason to go buying a 3k laptop.

                  The 3k you spend today will be 2400 tomorrow.

                  Fuck all that.. Ill spend 500 and if the fucker falls outta a plane on the way to a show I dont care.

                              dell xps m line if you want something very powerful and portable, but its about 2-3k, the normal inspiron m line is kickass for travel also

                                      to answer your question, i agree with the buy a cheap one for 600-1k; it will last a good year and is just fine for everything you need webmaster wise. if you're looking for a beast, then go with Alienware.

                                                  Let me tell you want NOT to get - A Compaq.

                                                  I have to keep a fan running against it otherwise it completely freezes and shuts off everytime it get hot which id does very quickly.

                                                  Am I supposed to carry a fan with me whereever I take the laptop?

                                                      If you were happy with Toshiba, why not stick with it....they are good computers...

                                                      I went with a Fujitsu; but, my other choice would have been Toshiba.

                                                      I think Dell sucks, regardless of what people say.

                                                                  A1R3K I was surprised to see in a Laptop placer here that they now sell new Dell laptops. they had one sitting there that was basically top of the line for 800$ I was really surprised. So before you order from Dell, check out your local shop, and maybe support one of the neighborhood places.

                                                                              If their computers are so great, why would anyone need their support....

                                                                              I've heard more complaints about their overall performance and the tech support language issues...which is enough for me to stay away from them.

                                                                              If it's a matter of price constraints, I can understand it....but, then you get what you pay for....

                                                                                                                  I got the new MacBook Pro last weekend and i'm completely blown away. I installed Boot Camp and windows xp and it runs perfectly. Without a doubt hands down best computer and best value on the market right now. It's the best of both worlds. You won't regret it.

                                                                                                                                          I would suggest to get another Toshiba Satellite :p I used to have one before I had to sell it :'(

                                                                                                                                          I would only suggest Apple notebooks if you are willing to learn another OS (the learning curve isn't that bad though) - they're good, but from what I've heard from a couple of friends is that they're cheaply made. The keys started to fall off after a few months or so.. which isn't good since it's around 1700-2500+ for the laptops. iBooks are flimsy as well.. I wouldn't suggest getting that unless your budget is really low.

                                                                                                                                          Don't forget to grab a 1-3 warranty :p

                                                                                                                                                          I jsut bought an Hp 5120 series last month. since then I have returned that one becuase of the dvd drive. I got the same model and the same thing happened within a month. I thought that third time was a charm until the third HP died on me. I went with toshiba and am happy with it so far. Also I would reccoment staying away from DELL becuase of their incompetent customer service reps.
