Color Mismatch - Help - What Do You See?

Need some help to see if I'm the only one who is having color profile mismatch issues with this content. I'm hoping it's just a problem on my end so i don't have to re-do 6.000 pics. I've tried everything to fix this - fiddled with Photoshop color setting, monitor color profiles - nothing solves it.

ok so let me know what you see here

the first pic here is a side by side comparison of the same pic - on the left it's what it looks like for me in Windows Picture Viewer, this is the way it should look, nice saturated colors - on the right is where things go wrong - same pic opened up in the Photoshop workspace, dull drab colors - the next pic is how it looks to me in IE ......... and here's the same pic on the web -
http://www.bratcash.com/bigpic.jpg

Now does this pic http://www.bratcash.com/gnd/bigpic.jpg on your screen look closer to the way it does for me in Windows Picture Viewer or the dull drab colors I see in Photoshop and my browser?

thanks

Well, it's the dull drab one you described. I must be a freak though because I like the one that you don't because it looks like a real picture of a real girl instead of some overprocessed corporate garbage. ;)

fucking Macs.

check the color space and profiles. . . make sure that windows is using the same color space as PS . . .. that should help, although you have no control of the color space the surfers have loaded . . . usually just the default .

been through this one way too many times with box and monitor, video cards changes . . . then pull up some stuff on-line that you have a feel for how it looks and compare . . this is how I do it . . luckily for me I have a ton of content on-line to look at and compare

BTW this image looks exactly the same on both to me . .

What you need to do is get yourself a Spyder to calibrate your monitor color... I foudn that once I calibrated my monitor, it was easier to tell when the image looked different in photoshop colors and web-ready

that is the tool and it's absolutely awesome for anyone who needs perfect color for photo retouching for web use or really any application. I use the OptiCal version, it's more versatile.

thanks

i've never had a problem like this before - my guy John is a Mac guy - shoots photos with the Adobe RGB 1998 color profile - my computer/monitor like Wanton's is set up with the sRGB color profile - i switched my monitor to Adobe RGB 1998 and Photoshop to Adobe RGB 1998 and still have this problem. Gonna try converting the pics to sRGB.

the Spyder thing looks cool but really it won't tell me how the photo looks to anybody else will it? which is why I posted the samples here on GFY to see how others see the photo on their monitors.

i should have used another pic as an example because i agree with you that with this pic it's debatable which pic is better - with other sets the drabness is definitely not good even in an 'amateur' type way.

Mutt'ster....everybody is going to see that pic a little differently because people have different size monitors, monitors made from different manufacturers and monitors that are new and old. Your monitor probably doesn't look the same right now as it did only a few months ago. I have a book called "Real World Color Management" and it's the bible in regards to getting good consistant color using computer equipment. One thing that it discusses is how monitors colors can drift over time and that's the reason to use the Spyder. The only thing that the spyder can do for you is give you some consistancy. So you know that your monitor is giving you the same gamma and color today that it did 6 months ago. That way you'll have a consistant workspace to do your color corrections etc. There's no way that you'll ever be able to see a pic the way that "everybody" see it, but with the Spyder (or something similiar), you'll have more control over your workspace from month to month.

I bought the Greytag Macbeth Eye-One Display last year and have it setup to remind me on the first of each month to calibrate my monitors. Each time I calibrate my monitors I have to "tweak" them slightly which tells me that even within just a months time the colors can drift slightly...just like the book I mentioned earlier describes.

The problem you described sounds like color space and/or profile issues just like Wanton suggested. He and I have had many many discussions about these problems over the past few months. Seems we are always fighting the color drift demons
