Ever notice how car companies never adapted their prices to the NEW exchange rate. A couple of years ago, I could understand why a $US 50K car would cost 75K Canadian...

But can anybody explain why a 60k US car costs about 85k here? (Cayman S)
Or why a car that costs 30k in the US is 50k here? (Sti)

Yeah I noticed that as well, I thought maybe because we have more stringent emission standards and safety requirements?

me too was in CA looked at the same car i looked at in the states...63K states.... 85K plus tax 15%.... in CA

..I always post in these threads as a car in the US costs approx 50% of what it costs in Finland, and car in Canada is like 30% cheaper too. So stop whining.

it's not just taxes or import taxes. There's NAFTA and a lot of cars are assembled in Canada. Say a BMW 2005 was 50k canadian, and the us equivalent was 35k. If the 2006 canadian BMW came out at 40 or even 45k which is the US price converted to cad, you devalue all previous years of that model by lowering your price on the new model. I don't see how they could just drop prices without causing a huge mess in the industry.

That's how it works in finland. I can't go and buy a cheap car in germany, I still have to pay the VAT, import tax and customs. An used car from Germany costs me 10k in germany, and by the time it's on my yard is 25k...

IMporting a car to canada is actually quite cheap and easy. Total costs should be under $500 in documentation. Most cars are built to canadian safety and emissions already (why have two models for the same continent?). Any car built in the USA is import tax exempt (subaru legacy gt limited is assembled in Indiana, so it's exempt).

You could buy the legacy for $26k USD, drive it home to Canada for $500 in paperwork and you'd pay only 7% tax on the purchase I believe...

I think your next issue (if it was a new car) would be that warranty... I doubt any Canadian Dealerships would be willing to do warranty work on a vehicle that was bought in the USA.

Bmw/Audi/Porsche are all covered anywhere in NA, I think most are actually.

Finland is crazy expensive for sure. But wouldn't it follow that because the cost of living is so much higher, that in general the salaries would also be higher than in the US or Canada? It's all relative dude

Sure but what everyone is saying is that they weren't this expensive a few years ago. Exchange rate evened out but the prices didn't move.

Lol. The general salary is less than in the US...but taxes are higher and so is the cost of living. I'm not kidding. Finland has excellent equal rights system, everyone gets ripped a new asshole. Seriously. There's no honest way of getting rich in finland. If my mom was to die now, the taxman would take 20% of her money before inherintance, the taxman gets his dirty fucking paws in every hole possible.
