Private domain registration alternitives?

As probably most of you here in this biz i would like to keep my personal information from whois database as much as possible. Up until now i have been using domains-by-proxy to do so but as my list of domains grow so do the charges. All my domains are at GoDaddy and they up until recently had very cheap private addons ($1.85), now they bumped then to $8.95, so $8.95 for domain and $8.95 for private registration, all the sudden i dont feel like spending $18/year per domain

Do you guys have other alternitives? I have seen some folks using fake names and addresses in there, does that pose potential risk of loosing domain? or it does not matter since they are LOCKED.

Any thoughts are appreciated...

is it safe? i mean if you put fake info can someone spoof it and give it to registrar and take over domain? i guess that goes for legit info as well.

how many of you use fake info?

I don't use fake info but I use my name, wich is very common, and a PO Box address far away enough from my home. I was kidding with the fake info thing. If someone reports you may get in trouble. And use a real e-mail address wich is the primary contact if somene wants to contact you.

Is this anonymous enough or what?
