The only way to be sure that no data can be recovered from the hdd by anyone ever is to replace the hdd with a new one. No matter what anyone tells you or any programs out there claim if the government wants to see what was on the hdd they will find a way

serious dude... if you need to destroy that data, you need to fuck that thing up beyond all recognition.... I mean, so much that you would never know it used to BE a hard drive.... anything less and they will find a way to get that data out of it.

if you delete all the shit from his comp, won't they suspect something fishy rather than leaving some illegal stuff that's on there?
besides, if you want to format and not be able to recover it, you'll have to format, then create a huge file which will take up all the space, and format again. that way, IMO, recovery will not be possible. the last thing you could do is just smack the harddrive and get a new one?

Heard of companies getting data from harddrives that got scratched, burnt etc.. so get rid of it completly if you want to be sure.

I'm just a lurker here and a newbie but I'm a repair tech in my day job. The only safe way is to remove and replace the hard drive. Compaq will have all of the drivers for his system on their site for download after you re-install the os. |

I jsut dont want to be associted with his bullshit. It was my old computer, and he even told me when he went to ticketmaster.com my credit card info was even still there. Obviously my email is still in there on outlookm and my personal info is in there. I dont need this shit.

I think im the only person worried for him. He doesnt seem to care. A minor is missing, in a town where Feds are all over searching for 2 gals missing last month, and he doesnt care? The dad just filled out a police report this morning. I guess him and dank have been talking and dank and this dad are on good terms, but the police arent gunna care. Dank just doent realize this.

If physically destroying the whole machine isn't an option then this is what I'd do.
Format C: (if you don't know how, click start, shut down, and select restart in MSDOS mode, when it reboots and you get the command prompt, type format C:, and answer yes to all of the questions) Then I would reinstall windows, and norton system works. I'd use the norton wipe info on the free space of the drive, and then I'd format C again..... Then load it up with whatever you had on there before.

Once information is on a hard disk recovery specialists can get all the data off of it. The only way to remove information would be to destroy the HD. Using fire and magnets is a good way to destroy an HD. |

yeah its big news around here.
If you even look at a highschool girl wrong it gets reported to the police here now and is an investigation. Just last week some Mexican was yelling out his window at a group of girls "hey ponchita" or some shit, and there is a manhunt for him. Its really big here now. Imagine what dank is gunna go through with this new missing girl having gone to lunch with him over the weekend. Not good.

I would remove the hard drive, take it apart, destroy every platter, then bury all the pieces all over the place - then buy a new hard drive and throw it in. Safest way in my opinion.
