The New Google Pack - Next Up an OS?

The New Google Pack:
http://pack.google.com/?utm_source=H...p-pack-en-v1-1

Personally, I'm skeptical installing anything from Google now that they are publicly-traded and "the bottom line is everything". But an interesting concept.

Includes:
Google Earth - 3D Earth browser
Picasa - Photo organizer
Google Pack Screensaver - Photo screensaver
Google Desktop - Desktop companion
Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer - Search toolbar
Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar - Web browser
Ad-Aware SE Personal - Antispyware utility
Norton Antivirus 2005 Special Edition - Antivirus utility

Optional Software
Google Talk - Voice and IM application
Google Video Player - Video player
GalleryPlayer HD Images - Images
RealPlayer - Media player
Trillian - Instant messenger

Its unfortunate that they bundled in Norton, which is a huge, bloated, obtrusive pile of shit.

I was just about to amend my post - a few things are optional that I didn't note, I believe Norton and Ad-Aware are. And I agree ... I have it now it's garbage.

I'd be willing to bet the screensavers are designed to use spare CPU cycles to help aid in the performance of the google search engine, haha.

They aren't going to build an OS. They have other plans and it doesn't have to do with software.

I would say wait a little bit until the system engineer types have a chance to see what info google is sucking off your system, or how much of your activity they are tracking as a result.

Both Google and Microsoft have been shopping for HUGE data warehouse installations, so don't be surprised if everything is done "online".

Patience is a virtue.
