They always have the most creative names. I might actually finally invest in a G5 with a two button mouse.

I wondered if this planned all along or only after someone figured out how to do it.

I guess this will be nice but its not like you can already setup a dual boot the new macs.

Hackers figured it out about 2 weeks ago. My guess is Apple had the software sitting there and decided to go public with it before some 17 year old kid did.

It's a real technological breakthrough that you can install windows on an intel based pc... must have taken them years of research and development to come up with this cool new invention

Yeah I remember that guy winning the prize money for figuring it out. I was just curious if apple only decided to release it now because of that.

The problem was that MacOSX and Windows boot up in completely different ways. That was the obstacle. Sure the Intel Chips are PC..but they were designed to boot up MacOSX

yea, but no matter what the obstacles are, it sounds more like a slashdot news that bunch of geeks would drool over, not a major announcement that gets printed on the front page of wall street journal, and boosting apple's stock prices up 8.5%.... (I made up the wsj comment, but this was #1 news on many financials websites this morning)

TGhis means you can run OSX a GREAT operating system and can run legacy (Windows) software on the same box with no translation. Shame Microsoft just wasted so much money buying the Virtual PC software. It is now going to be moot.

Unless of course you run a non Intel based mac in which the bootcamp does not work on, and the Virtual PC Software is designed for.

If you run an Intel based mac, you would run Bootcamp since Virtual PC does not work for it.

Last I heard there are a whole lot more old mac's than Intel mac's.

How is this not good news?

The one thing that stopped 99% of people considering a Mac from buying it was the fact that it couldn't run Windows or Windows software.

I agree with Young. It's damn good news. I am 92% sold on buying one for my next laptop. Now if they would only include a 2 button mousepad ON the keyboard instead of the one button. Why do they try so hard to be difficult. It's not like Apple doesn't support right clicking.

The Mac is waaaay more functional with a 2 button mouse. I use it on the Apple desktop I own... every blue moon when I turn it on.

I think what stopped people from buying a mac is that it costs 2x of what a comparably equiped pc would cost... At least that's what's stopping me, like Elli said, "what's the point?" if you have a mac, why would you need a pc? You can get most software titles for a mac, dreamweaver, photoshop, etc

How does the second mouse button work? Does it have its own function? Or does it work as the Apple Icon

My reason for not buying another Mac was always that it could not run Windows. OS9 was boring. OSX is pretty...but I just can't get the hang of it and don't have the patience.

Sure big programs by big software companies usually have Apple versions....but 90% of the little utilities, buy small publishers that prove to be the most useful don't have Mac versions.

I know you're intelligent. At least I think you are . . . not so sure after that comment. Compare, er, apples to Apples and that is just not true. The worst you can say about Apple is that they prefer to bring out premium machines (even their "budget" machines the Minis are pretty well loaded) and let the Dells of the world play with cheap, generic shit boxes and razor thin margins. But even with that their machines always compare favorably to PCs equipped in similar fashion.
