Semantics. The US and Britan let Russia take Berlin. There was a race to Berlin, and the Allies had gotten there first, but allowed Russia to take it per agreement. This is documented as Stalin wanted Berlin, and Britan and the US agreed. There were in position a few days prior, and could have taken it if they wanted.

You can argue who won WWII until your blue in the face. The Russians sure did take the brunt of it, but they were only fighting against one country on a single front while the US was fighting two wars a world apart (Germany and Japan) on multiple fronts (Africa, France, Italy, Denmark, and all of the Pacific).

That is absurdly simplistic. Russia came damn close to losing Moscow and if the Germans had not had troops committed elsewhere i,e France, North Africa etc then it is likely they would have taken Moscow and Russia would have gone with it. The fact is that the Allies were hugely interdependant - take one of them out of the equation and who knows how events would have turned out. Hitler made the mistake of fighting a war on two fronts and paid the price.

As for the US being unsuccessful at waging war - by themselves - then it is largely correct. To date invading Greneda is the high point.

At all other times even in the Pacific theatre during WWII other nations played a large part, Britain, Australia and other Commonwealth countries were heavily involved.

Regarding Europe in WWII it is certainly true that perhaps the biggest part of the war was played by the Russians, and essentially by an even more murderous leader than Hitler (Stalin). If Russia would have continued to fall as quickly as it was there is no doubt Germany would of won the war. The Russians however, through strength and indeed brutality of their leaders fought and held them off long enough to cause a major disruption.

That said, the USA played an absolutely enormous part in the pacific war, and were it not for them alone Australia would of certainly been conquered by Japan, along with the rest of the nations in the region. Britian, who Australia had relied upon up until that point, was obviously in their own fierce battle and could not truly fight in the pacific, and whilst Australians did fight bravely there isn't any real comparison been the Australian armed forces and the Japanese at that point. So really I think that could certainly be considered a US Military success.
