I read that that people are doing pretty good with their own businesses on eBay (eBay stores), selling cloths, baby strollers, and even art.

Discuss, what do you think?

i did ok with movies ... was running DVDs about 3 years ago for about 11 months solid....made enough to keep doing it, but since it started ... it has been harder and harder to sell on there. I think the Ebay fad is about over .... most are selling for the same price that you can buy it at wal-mart ... and then you still have to drop $5 for shipping ... so defeats the purpose.

I agree with SkeetSkeet...it's getting fairly saturated. More people are starting to sell on there. If you do get into it, try to find a product that fewer people sell...

I don't get on eBay very often, so I don't know what is mostly sold in their stores...but I'd suggest that instead of selling books, you could sell stuff like tv remotes, batteries (in bulk), blacklights, etc. I know those aren't great ideas...but I hope you catch my drift.

Well since one of my hobbies is scratching, I was thinking about selling vinyle records, because you dont see many record shops these days and hardly music stores sell vinyle. Hows that for an idea?

Ebay is really weird. Some things you think would be valuable are worthless, others do really well. Depends on a lot of factors. Basically if you can find something cheap that people want, you can make money. If not, you're just another guy working hard only to make a few bucks here and there.

Collectables do the best I think. I sold a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud that was onced owned by Judy Garland on ebay for a friend. We got $50K for it. The buyer was a huge collector of celeb cars and wired the money the next day without even seeing the car in person.

Ebay does it for me. I collect hockey memorabilia and I know what its worth.. I made quite a few dollars off ebay. I?m too lazy and not motivated, but if you know what you?re doing you can make a lot?.

Modern eBay sucks for sellers unless you are using it to liquidate inventory or sell in HUGE volumes. I ran an eBay business selling toys & collectibles from 97-2004 and things were good for awhile. I also worked at an online electronics warehouse that grossed about 20 million a year and they closed in 2005 because margains were too low.

My point is that anymore eBay is too saturated for people to make decent money. I wouldn't waste my time running an eBay business anymore. Paypal is 2%-5%, eBay fees can be anywhere from 6%-15% depending on listing fees... just doesn't make any sense.

eBay customers are also tough to deal with because they are bargain shoppers and want everything NOW. Tracking numbers NOW, the package here TOMORROW, they always want you to "rush".... just not worth unless you are working with the few high margain items out there.

With that said, though, my uncle owns a GM Dealership and sells a few cars a week on eBay and does very well with it.

Got a friend who had a large collection of stuffed cadavers and wanted to clear the house out. He was going to dump them in the trash, but offered them on eBay and was amazed at the prices he got.

BTW.. The "cadavers" were animals

Things like stuffed tigers from 18th century - with history attached. Typical collector stuff.
