Photoshop question

I can have a clear image but when I open it up in photoshop it instantly gets a little grainy, and then when I export it (as adaptive) it gets even fuzzier.

I'm using photoshop 5

Any ideas why it does this and how to keep a clear image sharp when working with it in photoshop?

What format is the image in that you are trying to put in photoshop? Let me know and I will give you some info.

Also, if the image displays good in other apps, like your browser, you can just do a screen shot.

ctrl + print screen -> and then ctrl-n in photoshop to create a new image that is the size of what you have copied, then crtl-v to paste the image.

That should work.

I'm working with .gif and .jpg.

When I do screen captures and paste them into photoshop does ps look at it as a bmp? Maybe that's my problem.

I do light editing with LViewpro and that keeps all the images clear, but you cant do much with lviewpro.

Have you checked the pixels per inch on the images?

Not sure on what would cause an image to simply "open" more grainy then it was before it was opened?

As for screenshots being read as bitmap, it will only do this if you have bitmap selected, which is also the reason I am assuming you have your resolution on low, its a pull down just above the "mode" when you hit ctrl>n for new document, all image parameters are editable from the create new window.

Since I have RGB mode checked, it creates a jpeg of a "screenshot" depending on how you set up the properties. It could be a bitmap tho... not sure if any of this will help as I have Photoshop highly customized through prefernces and might have overlooked something.
