Does Anyone Own Property In Venezuela Or Has Travelled There?

I have an opportunity to buy a nice 2 bedroom condo with a friend of mine down there in a nice beach resort. My buddy (who I already own real estate with) says this is a beautiful place and he's got other friends who own places within this resort.

http://www.beachclubresidences.com/site/index2.html

I would love to get some feedback on people who have travelled to Venezuela before. The price for this condo we are looking at is a steal!

Anyways any help and advice would be appreciated

Thanks,
DH

That place is a political powder keg right now, turning into another communist shithole like Cuban. That's why it's a steal.

Been there 3 times , but not recently. You have to watch the current presidents politics, you dont want to end up losing your investments

DH, My mom own's a condo in Margarita. Most of her siblings live in Venezuela - I have cousins with condos in different parts of the country. Rio Chico has always been a popular spot.

Depending on how much you are investing - like many mentioned, don't expect to make a fast buck back on it. The advantage is that it's relatively cheap to travel there, to have fun there. The political climate sucks but until you know the locals and understand their culture, stick to surrounding areas.

The advantages is that Venezuela is abundant in natural beauty - a little bit of all climates - too bad they have always had a horrible government.

NOTE - you won't be able to have a US bank account - in fact, when travelling there - best bring cash since you can get a better exchange than banks from the locals. They have a capped limit on the USD they are allowed to purchase yearly, so are always looking to buy USD/Euros - you sometimes get 33% exchange higher than the bank.

Definitely something you'd want to look into + it's a hop & a skip away from Aruba

Venezuela and the beaches are nice, still a third world country so don't be flashy with things unless you want them stolen. And like Trixxxia said, get to know some contacts (drivers, security people, etc). If you're in with the locals you'll be able to get around OK.

I was in Venezuela this year for the month of February. I didn't care for it - bad food, woman not that hot, and a very unstable political climate.

I would reccommend against buying there - there are so many better places in South America: Rio, Florianopolis, Buenos Aires, and Colombia to name a few.

btw, what do you consider "a steal"? Almost nothing is expensive down in south America.

As a American (or Canadian, not very sure), I don't think it's a good idea for you to invest on Venezuela. You never know what Chavez might come up with and you might lose your investment in the end.

Lol.... Yeah yeah, we shoot our homeless and there are monkeys on every street.

That piece of "news" is from 97/99. Not to mention that most of the shit written there is just plain bs.

My dad lived there for a few years, but left because he didn't want to lose everything... Would stay away until political scene changes...

It is less bad by a long shot now. I have spent a lot of time in Rio and not always in the good parts. It is not even bad compared to our inner cities.
