    Watermarks That Look Good - Photoshop Tip

    Got the latest one done. This is a nice little tip for what file format to use and the steps for making a good watermark for both pics and vids.

                                              well actually now that you mention it. Say I'm cropping 200 thumbs (can't batch because I need to be able to choose what to crop/tweak etc) all the same size. Is there a way that PS will auto-resize after I crop? Instead of having to crop then resize each individually.

                                                              why? if you're manually cropping each thumb how much time does it take to resize - 10 seconds - creating an action won't be much faster.

                                                              best idea is to save the 200 cropped thumbs in a folder as you go along, no compression - then when you're finished cropping them all run a batch resize action on that folder.

                                                                      Just one question, why not save the watermark file as a flattened PSD file? That way you don't compress it to save it and compress it again in the image being watermarked. You onyl end upw ith compression on the saved image you just watermarked.

                                                                                                  200x10 = 2000 seconds = 33.3 minutes a day that i could be saving. Was just lookin to save myself an extra step here or there. I'd prefer to be able to sharpen/etc right after the resize, so adding a batch to it would just add more time to the process.

                                                                                                  As for actions, might as well be speaking greek. I use PS for basic stuff, I don't know all the ins and outs of it

                                                                                                                  you might be better off using something other than PS - Rico from Panchodog was raving today about the new ACDSEE Pro - does all that stuff. Photoshop is kind of clumsy for this type of grunt work.

                                                                                                                          I agree for "grunt work" it's not usually the best choice.

                                                                                                                          But to answer the question about cropping to a specific size... when you select the crop tool in any of the latest CS Photoshop versions, you should see at the top of the screen a width and height box that you can fill in how many pixel you want to crop to. If you select only one or the other it will resize the image to that as the max dimension. If you select both, it will only let you draw a crop box the aspect ration of the dimensions chosen and will resize the image as soon as you finish the crop.

                                                                                                                              Like this:

                                                                                                                              1) You take this image and you want to crop out the guitar player into a 120x80 thumb:


                                                                                                                              2) So you select the crop tool and set the dimensions at the top of the screen:


                                                                                                                              3) Crop in however you want - PS will force the ratio on you.


                                                                                                                              4) Giving you the final thumb in the exact size you want without another command:
