I got a decent adult domain that I am going to develope. I wont be able to devote the time needed for the project for at least three months. What is the best thing to do with the domain between now and then as far as building traffic to it and getting the SEs to know that it exists.
I am thinking slop up a basic page with a relevant FPA, some text links and a carefully worded paragraph or two that will talk about what the site will be about without saying anything about being under construction or coming soon, etc. Am I on the right track here or do I have my head in my ass? What works for you guys? ![]() |

I would write several paragraphs packed with relative keywords as well as other basic SEO. Link to the page from several outside sources using those keywords as text links. Wait for engines to pick you up.

IMHO I think that's the right thing to do, but I'd bump it up and try and build out say 100 odd + relevant page ... only other idea that comes to mind, but it depends on the keywords of the domain is to park it at say fabulous.com and try and make a few $'s off it for a few months ... but I think if it's a project u'r going to develop u'r best off laying some seo groundwork now.

I thought about adding pages beyond the first one. When I launch the "real" page, how do the SEs react to a sudden change of the entire site like that? I liken it to taking a dive from your warm houseboat into lake Michigan in the middle of January. Do the little robots see a big feast of a meal and start eating, or do they act like my cat when I suddenly switch brands of cat food and start puking all over?

I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer for that, not that I'm aware of anyway. I would think that if you approach the initial page(s) with care and not try to blantantly spam the SE, you should be ok. Keep the initial pages somewhat relevant to your final idea. If at all possible, build your site up slowly and keep adding to it. From what I understand, search engines like when there is constant change to a website as long as it's within the same niche. Don't start off with a 'Dietary Informational Guide for Cats' website and end up with a 'Classic Lake Michigan Houseboats' Blog. |

Don't worry too much about the "sudden change" on a 3 month old domain. If you add a page every few days, you should be able to get the bots in the habbit of visiting your site.
If you throw up a blog on yourdomain.com/blog or similar, it would be an easy way to throw up relevant, keyword-rich content and a good ping list should summon the spiders. Later you could use the blog for posting galleries or you could use ip delivery (cloaking) to redirect all the indexed pages to your tour. |
