Outsourced PHP programmer experiences?

I firstly think of myself as a tech guy / programmer and I have always done my own programming but right now I have too much to do and want to do a database / php big site I was thinking of outsourcing.

The problem is whenever I have seen stuff outsourced people have done I thought it was done badly and I don't want to get this site done then have to redo it myself or patch up someone else code.

is this the experience other people have had with big outsourced projects or was stuff done well ?

Spanno,

iWebmasters is an Atlanta company, with operations in the Philippines. We are a staff leasing company which means for a flat monthly fee you will have managed full-time employees who can do all the things for you that you require.

If you need staff for web programming and design, customer service, collections, or sales, we can help. Build more sites, edit more pictures and videos, up sell products 24X7 on your website, add more products faster, have 24/7 email CSR support, take surveys, generate leads or appointments and grow your business. We also have 24/7 state of the art call center solutions in place for all your inbound and outbound calling needs. The only limit to your employees work description is your imagination.

We source web designers, programmers, content writers and call center agents for inbound and outbound calling and online "Live Chat" Support. I am confident we can source the skilled staff to accomplish the work you need at substantial bottom line savings.

Please keep in mind that your staff will report directly to you so you need to give them instructions on what to do. Once you reach Ten leased staff with iWebmasters, we will give you a free supervisor to coordinate with your team. We feel that there are 5 things that need to be done for effective management. Those are:

1. Recruit the best people that can be found.
2. Give them the tools that they need to do their job.
3. Remove any obstacles in their way.
4. Give them clear directions as to what they are to accomplish.
5. Catch them doing things right and tell them to do more of it.

We do numbers 1, 2 and 3 for you but you need to take care of 4 and 5.

For each position that you fill we have a $1000.00 dollar setup fee and a 6 month minimum commitment. Once you pay the fee, we start sending you resumes and portfolios for qualified applicants. When YOU select the person that you want, we put them to work for you and only then do you start paying the monthly fee.

Please let me know me know if you have any questions. I look forward to your response.

It can work out ok - it depends on how well you manage the project.

Build in extra time - a lot of it. Not so much for billing, but for delivery. Managing an outsourced asset slows everything down.

Communication is key - make sure you get someone who will be available when you want them available. Make sure they will give you the reports you want, complete and on time.

Set expectations with the programmer early, and hold him to them, Don't let him slip for a moment.

When an outsourced project starts to fail halfway through, or later, it's a total nightmare. I had to learn Visual Basic and finish a major project myself because an outsourced programmer went AWOL two weeks before deadline. heh - the poor girl was on a college VISA and got deported back to India..

At least I learned a bit about Visual Basic

you get what you pay for... think about it, if there was nothing wrong with outsourced workers, why would they charge 1/10th the price for work that a programmer from the west would do it for. Common myth is that they charge so little because over there, that tiny amount is a lot of money. That's true, but if they provided same quality service as someone from the west, why wouldn't they charge similar prices?

Exactly, if an outsourcing company claims to be just as good as a domestic one, why would they even bring up the fact they are outsourced, theres no rule that says you have to say where the work was done...

I had a script written for me, which I paid for about 1/10 of what I was quoted by the 2 or 3 Americans I asked, it works 100%, the job was done on time, I had NO problems whatsoever. The common myth is that if you pay 10 times more to an American you'll get a very good product which is TOTAL bullshit.

hope that helps

Well, it depends who you hire and for what you hire. Furthermore, you need to give complete documentation for the prokject, because without documentation the project will fail.
This limits very much the aplicability of the outsource but for the big projects it worths...

If youre planning to outsource a project, consider working with our company.
We have managers and supervisors who will take care of you.

and also, we don't charge recurring setup fees(every 6 months), no contracts, or surprises you with some hidden charges unlike others out here.
