However, I question business models that rely too heavily on Google.
|
wow all that with just 4 servers very impressive
|
God this makes me so sick with jealousy.

Both from a tech-nerd perspective and a business perspective.

INNOVATION is a word that will get you PAID!

Is there a way to confirm that? I have no doubt he makes money but how can you be sure it's as much as he says? Just by his word alone? Everybody on GFY including me is a millionaire too.

Do you want to question that business model again? Google bans him he goes to one of the other contextual ad companies. |

Funny I was just reading about this guy over at threadwatch the other day.It seems a few years ago he posted on WMW "I make about $40/day off 1200 visitors." hehe.
http://www.threadwatch.org/node/5917 The guy`s a genius apparently.Good for him. |

if even companies like match.com want to buy his code, I think he's got a damn good head start on the rest of us... |

So what is so hard to believe? |
Cool, but I still like Myspace a lot better. Speaking of which, don't they run Adsense too? Hmm, I wonder what they rake in.
|
holy crap he is ine gifted mofo..
really like his site and the numbers are truely amazing |
Quote:
That is what I was going to ask too |
Wow that really is quite impressive..
|
That is freaking awesome. I think the only downside is if he puts dating sites out of business and his ad revenue gets cut in half because of it.
I love shit like this. Just when you think the last new mouse trap was invented. Bammm!!! :thumbsup |

Why, you ask? Because it does shift consumers to using the free dating site model. That model doesn't profit even 5% as much as the paid model which pays us accordingly. Free dating kills that industry and in turn our profits. In 5 years all of them wil be free. Goldrush=Over. But, was it necessary? No, there was no reason to lowball the industry just to get in the door. Sure it takes just a little bit more work to make money in that game but as all of us here know, it's not hard to get people to signup to damn near anything. Someone with his immense automation skills could have done better going the paid route. |

With a database that size he could start charging membership any time he feels like it. |
Easy way out.
But I guess it works. |

that's a shitload of money!

We have something like that but we open local franchises. Earning really good revenue. If you wanna be famous in your town and got some promo money to invest, hit me up on icq ;) All the club owners will be on your ass so they get a peice of the pie ;)

Uhm yeah, hes doing something very wrong :1orglaugh |
I don't believe this. Just a week and a half ago we we're talking about free dating! Fuck me. Oh well, good for this guy! Glad to see he's doing very well it. It's an interesting approach he took that's for sure. Just awesome...and he deserves every penny he makes for seeing the potential and doing it his way.

adsense is easy but if someone took the time much more money could be made with that amount of traffic
|

using only text ads. Why go fuck it up ? Everyone seems to have an opinion on this guy :1orglaugh but probaly couldn't even come close to replicating it. |

The guy seems to have spent so much time on the server side that he couldn't even make a clear header image, its all distorted/pixelated.
|
I find it funny that he considers himself in the same league as Match.com. Match is doing more than a hundred million dollars a year in profit.
Also, I think a lot of his Adsense revenue comes from other dating sites Google ads. He puts down those same dating sites that he makes most of his money off. Quite ironic really. What would happen if all the dating sites excluded him from their adsense campaign? |

I am pretty sure I have seen this guy advertise his sites on TV in the Toronto area as well.

one important question though - people are still joining match.com and other sites in droves, so what features do they offer that plentyoffish.com doesn't? |
Quote:
And no, they are not joining Match.com in the same droves they were before. Myspace and other social networking sites have cut into their market in a big way. |

where do the income figures come from?

Quote:
I agree 100% |
Quote:
on the other hand, they may perhaps be using site targeted ads so they'll then know exactly how many views and clicks they're getting Quote:

Quote:
also, further up this thread a friend of his confirms he got a $900,000 check from google for two months worth of clicks |
I smell bullshit... also, Google told me they only allow adsense on very mainstream sites... wouldnt even accept my penis enlargement traffic and its extra fucking clean :(
|
Quote:
why exactly do you call bullshit? you do know that some people run very successful sites, right? |
