That would depend on your house. If you have access to an attic or crawl space it isn't that hard or expensive at all. Cathedral ceilings etc. can run you more.

1. mark where you're going to mount the tv
2. cut a small hole in this area
3. cut a small hole close to the outlets or whatever by the floor
4. mount the tv
5. run the wire straight down and pull it out of the bottom
done, just make sure you use those little plastic bezels or whatever they're called so your hole looks nice n neat
Assuming your digital cable box, dvr, surround sound reciever is like 2 or 3 feet under your tv its easy. I hope people in this thread didnt pay $300+ to fish a wall 3 feet
If your components aren't directly underneath you have to go up from the tv into and attic and down, or up from the basement. If you have a 3 story house and the tv is on the 2nd floor thats gonna be some work.
Anyone who spends $500 to run 3 wires 10 feet has more money than brains. If you dont have time to do it yourself or dont want to, at least get a good rate. Good god, this makes the AT&T's install labor rate of $109 an hour look cheap.

yea, but you need tools and half a day to waste in order to make it happen...
i just said fuck it and bought the matching stand for my viera plasma. In my next house I will pre wire it my self ahead of time. If you have an electronic cable wholesaler in your area call them to see how much there cables are. they have the monster cable stuff at much better rates then say best buy, plus they may know an electrician who does work on the side.
What's so hard drilling a hole and pulling a wire through it? All you need is a measuring tape and a screwdriver to mount the brackets..geez,a chimp could do it
$3 for a junction box, $4 plaster, $1.50 sand paper and $40 paint. Did it myself. Its pretty clean actually, all wires including the the A/C plug run up inside my wall and behind my TV. There are no wires showing.
the tv is already mounted on the wall, I did that myself, but the wires trhough the wall, I dont want to risk making it look ugly, so I want to get a pro to do it for me!
Fuck mounting it to the wall. Get a stand...you need a place for your PS2, Xbox, DVD player, cable box, and TIVO anyway. Then, in 6 months when you decide to rearrange the room or get new furniture, it won't be a pain in the ass to put the tv in a different spot.

A screwdriver and measuring tape is all you would use to mount a television to a wall? What do you think, you're hanging a picture?

Ray
I do agree - do it yourself
but unless its drywall, you'll have to go the route of Ray - chase out the wall, put the wires through a protection tube then plaster over. All very cheap, though $40 for paint is a major underestimation... every time I do shit like that and paint over the bit of plaster, it shows that the entire room needs repainting and what was an hour job turns into a major weekend headache and earbashing from the wife on what colour to repaint in
