Canadian soldiers risk life and limb in Afghanistan lately in an effort to keep the peace and preserve democracy. They're helping rebuild the nation in every way possible.

And when Canadian soldiers shoot an Afghan who fails to stop at a military checkpoint and comes within two feet of our armored conveys, Afghans jump in front of every available camera and loudly denounce Canada and scream bloody murder.

Well, excuse me...you fuckin' douchebags. In a country where car bombs and suicide bombers are an everyday occurrence...what do you think those roadside checkpoints are for? They're not selling Kodak film and tourist brochures.

What do you expect when one of our lads gets his head stoved in with a goddamn axe a few weeks ago? Jeezus H...an axe! But did you see Canadians all over the news screaming at Afghanistan and calling for their heads on a platter? No...instead you saw our commander-in-chief making an extra effort to visit villages and remove his helmet at every chance to extend friendship...despite the risks. And recently our new Prime Minister even took a tour of the region.

No apologies for the rant this time. I'm sick to death of the middle east. Its a cesspool. Always has...always will be. Just a bunch of ungrateful, malcontent jackasses bent on causing shit every chance they get. We take one step forward - they delight in pushing us two steps back...everytime.

They live for carnage and that's it.

Meanwhile...Canadians watch more body bags arriving home and wonder when will it end? What's it all for?

Being Cdn. ex-military myself - I fully support and applaud our troops and their selfless efforts overseas.

But is it all really worth it?

We shouldn`t be there, even less under the command of US forces. Would be more acceptable under the umbrella of the UN.

Now, we are accomplishing nothing ( that country will never be ¨democracy¨) and will end up antagonizing the afghans and muslims, making our country a top target for retaliation attacks on our soil.

I believe it is worth it. I'm also ex military, and I know they are doing good things over there.
And your god dam right it's our war, we we're named in Osama's hit list long before we took over.
As for being under US command, you do know Canada is in command down there right now right? And even otherwise who cares? American, Canadian German, Aussie, whoever, the job needs to be done and they are doing it! Fucking eh to everyone in Uniform down there.
Get you heads out of the dirt and realise they are gonna come even if we do nothing. Only if we do nothing they'll be better trained, better funded, and better prepared. Get a grip!

As for the unfortunate shooting, I fully agree that he should've just stopped, but he didn't. Mistakes were made, but the job still needs doing, Soldier On.

I quite agree it was fully a mistake that the guy didn't stop. Who knows what the idiot was thinking. But to hear the Afghan's on the nightly news - they act and talk like Canada has a murderous vendetta against them all. As if its all some western plot to simply kill Afghans.

You shouldn't be there first place. Don't fool yourself you are doing a favor to world peace or Afghanistan. Canadians soldiers should be limited on protecting Canada and not to offshore operations. Apparently your soldiers value for your country is a trade-off number between your govt and united states.

you have to look at it in perspective..

If french-canadians in canada were fed up with the government and started becoming terrorists bombing shit and killing canadian military , and you were english canadian and drove up to a road block and some guy started shouting french at you , that you didnt understand , then shot your wife. dont you think you would be pissed. Even if you had foreknowledge that the area your travelling in was dangerous and suicide bombers had attacked roadblocks.. you would still be pissed if you fel you were in the right and they were in the wrong..

Just because canada is there to help , doesnt mean ONE person couldnt have made a mistake and shot the wrong person. I agree they are focusing on the negative , but you have to at least look at it from their perspective.

If your kid got shot by mistake and the onl;y response you got was " hey we are only here to save your ass be gratefull" you would be pissed too.

kind of shit happens in canada too but they launch investigations and reports and shit. well afghanistans government is in chaos so things obviously are going to work slower thus the legit civilians will feel abandoned , it would work the same way here if we were invaded by another country for no reason.. not only does the "being invaded thing" suck but it obviously is going to make you a tad biased
