So far im only betting against the winning horses (lay) so they actually should lose. Im getting a nice win to lose ratio.

The only three sites you'll need to make money backing horses:

http://www.racingpost.co.uk
http://www.betfair.com
http://www.adrianmassey.com

Bear in mind that if you're laying horses, when one of them does win it'll normally cost you a lot more than $4

Yes, i just lost one, 2 mins ago, cost me 11 bucks. But if you can keep your win to lose ratio 5:1 or better, which you can, then youre in the green.

Just make sure you pick a lay where the potential money you can lose is not too much. When im betting 4 dollars i make i can't lose more than 15 bucks or so.

If you do that you won't keep up the 5:1 ratio you say you need.

Trust me, I've been doing this for years - blindly laying favourites will lose you money long term

99% of all betting will lose you money in the long term. Anyway, you seem to know this game. Give me some tips

This is how I got started - using http://www.racingpost.co.uk, go through the days declarations and make a note of the 3 favourites with the lowest forecast start prices in UK races only (not racing in Ireland). Blindly backing these will give you a win ratio of about 60% and a long term loss of about 5-10% of your stakes, so don't do that. What you want to do is find reasons why they WON'T win. Use the info on the Racing Post site, Adrian Massey's stats and any other racing website you find easy to use (some can be very confusing) to come up with reasons. Keep a note of those you reject and those you don't, and the reasons why. If you've made a profit after 3 months, it's time to start using real money

Different people have different styles of betting. Some people like looking for horses they feel are undervalued by eveyone else - they won't win very often, but when they do the prices are very good and in the long term they make a profit. I prefer to concentrate on very low priced favourites - I don't make much money when they do win, but the sheer number of winners I back makes up for that.

I don't know anything about horse racing aside from trying to pick the first three at the Kentucky Derby.

Are there any good horse betting tutorial sites out there?

So i finally made it to 100. I started with 30 bucks. No 70 bucks is not much but right now im just trying to see how it works and trying to find a way to bet as safe as possible. This isnt 70 bucks profit with 3 lucky bets...this is coming from tons of real small bets and so far i still dont see a reason how you could lose unless you start betting as much as you have so you could lose it all within 1 or 2 bets.

This is what i did today for those who care:
