Who is lactose intolerant?

I noticed from the milk thread a lot of people are lactose intolerant. Me too.

Just curious what you guys can and can't handle. I can have pizza usually and light cheese (and milk) in various foods, but I would never take a bite out of a cheese stick or have a bowl of ice cream. Sometimes I have a worse reaction than others as well. Haven't tried any of the soy products yet, maybe I will soon.

Wife is. She just switched to Silk, Say's it's not bad. There's even a few brands of Lactose free Ice cream out there now. If you look around a little you'll find good replacements for about everything from I can see.

Me too. I'm the same as you, Sly, when it comes to what I can and cannot eat.

Cream Cheese and Cottage cheese are the worst offenders.

What's strange is I grew up drinking like a half gallon of whole milk daily. I never expected to be like this. Lactaid isn't so bad but you can't really drink it the same way as you can regular milk. The taste is different.

I am too, but it kinda comes and goes. I can pretty much tell my limit. I take those Lactaid pills when I know I'm going to be bad. Without them....whoa boy!! Better clear the way....hahaha!

Can someone point me to the right ice cream to buy? I would love a bowl of ice cream, its probably been 10 years since I've had any. I looked once but couldn't find any.

lactaid pills save me so much pain.. I can get away with a few pieces of pizza, a bit of cheese in a hot pocket, and "fake" american cheese with no problems. White russians, alfredo sauce, cheese fries, ice cream, etc require pills. Cheese cubes are like grenades, I won't touch them. Breyers does make a lactose free ice cream, but so far I've only found it in vanilla. :P I've recently tried the lactaid milk and have no problems, and don't notice any weird taste. Then again, I haven't had regular milk in years. I can't even drink a glass of milk without a mental block. I couldn't give up ice cream, so that was my main motivation for grabbing lactaid pills.

Be carfull with soy, its for pussies and has been shown in several studies to lower testosterone.

I can get away with yogurt and milk with lactaid.

For some reason soy cappicino at Starbucks makes me fart worse than if I drank a cup of cream. Same thing for soymilk in cereal. I'll drink milk before I touch that stuff again! LOL

I sort of am. I can drink milk straight or in cereal without problems but extra cheese on a pizza and I get weird reactions. Cream in coffee too.

Noticed my lactose intolerance developing over the last 2-3 years... From what I understand cheese and yogurts don't have the right kind of lactose in them, and my experience eating them agrees with that, never had a problem.

Milk/Ice Cream however are big no-nos... I don't even want to think of two Christmas's ago when I drank 6 rum + eggnogs, scary shit.

I buy "natural" flavored soy milk and frozen yogurt for ice cream, don't have any problems LactAid is good shit too.

I have been since birth - was nursed on soy milk. I can generally eat normal levels of cheese but if I have too much icecream or anything cream based I will pay for it. Same deal with regular milk but because of this being life long I don't drink much milk. I try to remember to take calcium supliments but I forget a lot.

I am glad the UK is finally getting some decent tasting soy milks. There is oen soy chocolate milk that I am into at the moment just because it is a novelty to be able to drink milk.

I became lactose-intolerant when I was a teenager. I totally hate the feeling everytime I accidentally drink milk.

Well I don't drink milk anymore but I do love eating oranges. One good way to acquire calcium too.

I am as well... I haven't really studied this to find out what really bothers me. When I was 15 I was told I was "allergic" to milk, any kind, from any animal. It's almost impossible to stay away from as it is in so many different products but I try to as much as possible. Last week I did really well and then I had some pizza and it wasn't fun.

I drink Silk soy milk and love it, more so then regular dairy milk. I also found a great soy yogurt at this one store that is amazing. http://www.wholesoyco.com They make quite a few different flavors and they all taste good.

I've tried various Soy or Rice based cheeses and they are horrible. Taste like you are eating soft plastic.
