2 Macs, 1 PC, 1 Keyboard & Mouse (PIC)

I need to run multiple workstations on my desk, I have tried KVM switches and using different keyboards and mice in the past and it?s all a pain to manage.

Robbie Rye told me about a free application called Synergy.

It allows you to use one common keyboard and mouse for as many computers (Mac and PC) as you need. I can drag my mouse from one machine to the next as if the monitors are connected to the same computer. The keyboard works on the machine that is currently using the mouse pointer. The flow is seamless.

Setup is simple, just install synergy on all your computers, choose one to be the server (keyboard and mouse hard wired to server) and the rest can be clients. The server application let?s you arrange the monitors the way they are set on your desk.

It's just an LG 42" plasma. I payed like $2900 CDN for it but they are around $2k right now. Perfect little office TV. Good for video games, TV, movies and for real time output from Final Cut Pro.

It's connected to both mine and Claires Macs and all the other equipment in the house wiring closet.

I can actually run it as a 3rd monito on the G5 setup above. It's too far away to use as a desktop extention.

Hmm somehow my cursor always goes like around my screen lol, I mean if I go to the oposite direction and hit the end it reapears on the other side of the same screen, does that on both screens, no problem in the middle tho.

Copy paste works across them all

But I can't drag and drop, that would be too cool if I could.

The "poor mans" solution would be to just put a public share on one of the boxes, and mount it from the others. Then you could at least drop files into one folder and access them from all the machines..... Not a great solution, but it's better than nothing.

Wow! Thank you!! This is the coolest thing I've ever done with my machines.

Works beautifully even with a simple 1 laptop/1 desktop setup. Might have to grab another desktop ;)

BTW - is your powermac running through some kind of dock there?
