My little brother came down with Type 1 Juvenile Diabeties when he was 3.

He's 7 now, on an insuline pump, and doing great.

It's one of the causes that I donate to every year.

They're so close to a cure, with many promising studies being done!

Yeh, my blood sugar and all that wasn't bad enough for insulin.... I kinda knew when I was young that my chances were pretty good I would get it.

I take glucophage which is a pretty popular drug for diabetics.. I can tell you one thing, once I started taking these pills I don't drink gallons of water per day

damm I was drinking and drinking, people used to trip on that..

Juicy... if they say yes... have them do an A1C test. This one blood test will give them and you the average of your blood sugar from the past 3 months. Average A1C is 6.5-7.0. When I was first diagnosed mine was 12.5. I take Metformin and Actos, pretty common drugs. MY A1C has run pretty consistant at 7.5-8.0 over the past year or so. It gives the doc something to yell about.

And sign up for the American Diabetes Association newsletter. It gives you lots of medical info and research that you can't find anywhere else.

Good luck precious

I got diabetes when I was 14 and I'm 36 today so I've been living with it for quite some time.
Injections every single day.

If you got any questions feel free to hit me up.
Even my girlfriend has it (didn't know when I started dating her) and my father has it as well.

Juicy if you might be diabetic then you better quit smoking now.
Smoking destroys and constricts your blood vessels, and your eyes and legs will need all the help they can get.
It also makes you more likely to get kidney disease.

Diabetics who smoke are 3 times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than other diabetics.

smoking while diabetic is like pouring gasoline on a fire.
good luck with your tests

not yet but I have insulin resistance (which in turn caused me to have polycystic ovaries) and I take two metformin pills a day (which is a diabetic medication) in order to try to control insulin and to hopefully prevent me having full blown type 2 later in life.

However, that is going to be a real up hill fight as my sister and I are the only family members on either side not to to be an actual diabetic and even I have insulin issues.

I probably had insulin resistance since puberty but it is only in the last five years or so they started linking polycystic with insulin and it is only in the last ten or so they even started noticing polysystic at all.

Same here, my younger brother has diabetes type 1.

Just happen overnight with no explanation, no one in my family has it either.

I also keep a very close eye on those progresses, they recently were able to cure diabetic monkeys using pig cells.

One of the reasons I try to make money is because one day I'd love to offer to pay for my brothers treatment/cure if he can't afford it or the state doesn't pay for it.

I was told I was insulin resistant years ago when I was a child and that eventually I will have type 2 diabetes. It runs on my father's side of the family and it seems to be inevitable for me, sometime in the near future I'm sure

It sucks but it's controllable.

hey, you type 2 ppl, do you have to check your blood few times a day? I gotta do it 4 times a day and inject 5 times. one thing diabetes gave me was numbness/resistance to pain.

word of advice, start learning how to count carbs (not just sugar). good luck with the tests Juicy.

My brother has it. He's an idiot and doesn't properly take care of himself. Every once in a while he gets taken to the hospital by ambulance because he won't wake up. Stupid kids.

Type 2 here - Its not a good thing to hear.

But to be honest its just a wake up call to live the healthy lifestyle we should all be living anyway.

You will get a load of advice - but it boils down to one thing - live the lifestyle that we have all been told about since birth, but chose to ignore.

:tongue

Was insulin resistant for about 20 years before becoming full-blown diabetic about 10-12 years ago. I take 30 mg of Actos each day and control it with diet. I'm going off Actos as I recently read how it and Avandia are causing severe eye problems and the FDA is investigating.

Like Sarah, mine is a symptom of PCOS.

I eat what I want but in minute quantities --a bite of cake, not a slice. A bite if cookie, not a whole cookie.

I avoid most products with white flour and potatoes as they're really bad for diabetics. I eat mostly wheat flour products and you get used to it is all I can say.

I have a father who is dying from diabetes-related diseases and is on insulin 4 times a day and having watched him slowly dying is why I'm SO careful about controlling my blood sugar.

Juicy, just know it can be controlled and don't let it control YOU. There are diabetic forums for information and so many products these days are made with Splenda, making it easier to eat than years ago, but avoid things with Sorbitol, Mannitol or Maltitol!

Sextoyking, it's a by-products of our ancestors, all that matzoh with flour, latkes with potatoes and Purim honey cake.
